Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.
Snapshot News:
On Thursday we held our Careers Fair with visitors from a range on industry sectors, students were given the opportunity to visit the different stalls to discuss the range of careers in each industry and the different pathways that can be taken to be successful in that industry.
We also had visitors from Moulton College who worked with our Year 10 DT students in a furniture making workshop and Carly visited with her therapy dog Zeeva who spent time with our Year 8 students, our staff also enjoyed meeting Zeeva!
Year 13 Masterclass
This week, our Year 13 students took part in a cooking ‘masterclass’ where they rustled up some tasty meals in preparation for living away from home. All students were given a budget of £5 to cook a nutritious meal for two. The dishes ranged from student favourites such as spaghetti bolognaise to exotic stir fries.
Year 8 and 9 Art:
Year 7 DT
Year 7 and 8 students have been learning how to recycle bottle lids/tops and transforming them into workable sheets of polymers with Mr Hirst, and we are hoping to be 100% sustainable in Design Technology by September 2022!
Year 12 Computer Science
Year 12 have been learning about the different ways we can store data inside a computer. Planning code is an important part of software development. students demonstrated this by creating a giant flowchart of the steps needed to create a data structure known as a stack.

MFL:
Mrs Gonzalez-Villamil Lean has nominated Year 7 students Katie for always being so helpful, proactive and hardworking in every lesson and Aiden for really trying hard to turn things around and shine in Spanish.
Year 11 Spanish students are working hard on their topic of The Environment and Mrs Bartlett is really impressed to see how many of them are taking their exam preparation so seriously and are working hard to embed their tenses and verbs. We are really looking forward to seeing the progress that has been made in their next lot of speaking assessments in Week 2 next term, and wish them luck with their preparation over the holidays.

Year 7:
This week Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 7CO who composed some excellent call and response sections in groups. A special mention to Gabriela, Mirren, Jorja, Sophie, Akashara and Mugdi who had a piece of music which was perfectly in time by the end of the lesson – brilliant work!
Year 8:
This week year 8 have been improving their improvisation skills. Miss Patrick has been very impressed with how all students approached some very challenging performance tasks. A special mention to Lily and Kai in 8SI this week who have demonstrated their resilience this term and have made great progress!
Year 9:
This week Miss Patrick has really enjoyed hearing Year 9’s minimalist ukulele pieces, which students composed themselves in small groups. A special mention to Natalia, Olivia, Sophie, and Keeley IN 9TE who all produced brilliant ostinatos in a short time frame – well done!
Maths:
Mrs Wynn would like to congratulate the following students on their progress shown around angle facts. In 7B3 Markuss, Henry, Jorden, Daisy and Harvey. In 7C3 Alexei, Isabelle, Liberty, Amber, Aiden, Christopher and Logan. Well done to 11B2 for their excellent assessment grades. Let's keep that momentum going!
Excellent work also from Year 7 students Liberty, Demie, Isabelle and Emelia on area and perimeter tangrams.

Humanities:
Mrs Brook has nominated Gabriela in 7CO for achieving full marks in her Knowledge Check Assessment results in RE, well done!
Miss Gilbert has made the following nominations this week:
Laura, Olivia and Daisy R (7TA)for their amazing responses to the assessment which they were brave enough to read aloud to the class. Well done!
Morgan, Kerreyn and Danica (7CU) for their continued hard work throughout the term but especially in the final lesson which was on a case study on wild weather.
Well done to 8TU for working hard throughout the term, and continuing to improve their work on map skills. A special shout out to Oliwia G, Paddy, Henley and Jasmine for their work on map skills. Well done to Nadia, Harry and Shae (9CA)for their continued hard work in Geography and History this term. A special mention to Tyler, Bianca and Joprince (9TE) for their end of topic essay answers to ecosystems. Well done to the whole of 9TE for always putting a hundred percent into every lesson. 10C have worked incredibly hard this term, so you should be proud of yourself. A special shout out to Seth, Yunus, Victoria and Leena for completing an amazing end of topic test.
DT and Engineering:
Mr Hirst would like to say thank you to all Year 11 and 6th form students in Design & Technology and Engineering who have stayed on for additional support, all are making great progress in what has been a challenging term.
Mrs Firmin would like to say well done to 9SW for their fantastic attitude in the furniture workshop. They all engaged really well and gave everything a go. They were really enthusiastic and Mrs Firmin was very proud of them all.
Science:
This week's Scientists of the Week are:
Year 7 student Patricia for excellent spring practical work.
Year 8 student Mia for a great Attitude in Science.
Year 9 student Mary for achieving a great result in her Biology assessment.
Year 10 student Emma for her fantastic effort in Physics.
Year 11 student Adrian for great effort during revision lessons.
English:
Mrs Rice would like to say Well done to Year 11 for all their hard work this term, the fantastic progress made and their wonderful enthusiasm and positivity in the English and Maths results assembly yesterday.
Miss Lodge has made the following nominations:
9B1 for their fantastic work on Macbeth this term. Their enthusiasm for the text and willingness to act out the scenes has been great to see and their understanding of such a complex text has been exceptional. 7BZ and 7AZ for some fantastic discussions on Dystopian fiction and excellent creative writing pieces. Miss Lodge has really enjoyed reading your work this term. 8B3 and 8A3 for their excellent reading of The Tempest. Miss Lodge has been so impressed with their resilience and enthusiasm this term. Also nominated are 10AP2 for their great attitude in lessons this term, fantastic reading of Romeo and Juliet and understanding of key themes. Miss Lodge is looking forward to continuing to read the text with them next term. Special mentions to Joshua Samuel, Cameron B, Dominiks, Dawa and Sanita for always being willing to read and adding some inciteful comments to class discussions. Finally, 11AP1 for some excellent work this term and fantastic progress made. Special mentions to Daniel, Anya, Klaudia, Saul, Jess and Jason for consistent hard work, great contributions to class discussion and resilience.
PE:
Miss Williams has nominated Year 11 PE who have shown fantastic skill in Volleyball this term. Also nominated are the girls basketball club, they turn up each week and are always enthusiastic. They always show great respect to one another in friendly competition. Year 10 PE groups have also shown excellent progress with Volleyball and Netball this term. They have shown great resilience and teamwork when learning the Netball positions and Volleyball serving rotations.
Mr Armstrong has nominated Year 10 students Ella and Rhys, both were fantastic this week in the student panels for the PE interview process.
Mr Rogers has nominated Year 10 students Louis, Theo and Riley for their excellent teamwork in football and Year 11 students Jenna, Erin and Lexi for their excellent work in Sport Science.
