HEALTH & SAFETY
COVID-19 Vaccine Information for Students 16 Years and Older (updated April 9, 2021)
As of March 30, all Minnesotans 16 years of age and older became eligible to receive a vaccine.
At this time, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine that has been studied and authorized for use for 16 and 17 year old. individuals. Data from Pfizer vaccine studies show the vaccine is safe and effective for this age group. Other vaccine manufacturers are also studying their vaccines in younger age groups but have not yet received authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The Minnesota Department of Health has created a resource with information about COVID-19 vaccines for 16- and 17-year-olds.
How to get your vaccine:
- Sign up for the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector. The Vaccine Connector will inform you about vaccine opportunities in your area.
- Use the Vaccine Locator Map to find vaccine providers near you.
- Contact your primary health care provider or a local pharmacy.
- Vaccine Connector users may also be randomly selected to make an appointment at one of the state’s COVID-19 Community Vaccination Program sites. If you are selected, you will be notified by text, email, or phone call by one of the state vaccination partners running those sites: Vault Health, Primary Bio or SpeciaLysts (Solv).
- Your employer may also reach out with information about vaccination opportunities.
Stay safe before your opportunity to get the vaccine:
While all Minnesotans 16 years and older are eligible, not every Minnesotan will be immediately able to make an appointment. It’s important to continue taking easy steps to slow the spread of COVID-19:
- Wear a mask
- Maintain physical distancing
- Wash your hands
- Get a COVID-19 test if you need one. Find a no-cost testing location near you or order an at-home test at no cost.
Quarantine Guidance for those are vaccinated (updated as of April 7, 2021)
Who does not need to quarantine:
If you have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days and have close contact with someone with COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine if ALL of the following are true:
- Your illness was confirmed with a positive lab test in the past 90 days.
- You have fully recovered.
- You do not currently have any symptoms of COVID-19.
If someone has completed COVID-19 vaccination (two doses in a two dose series or one dose in a one-dose series) and is exposed, they do not need to quarantine if ALL of the following are true:
- The COVID-19 exposure was at least 14 days after their vaccination series was fully completed.
- They do not currently have any symptoms of COVID-19.
Please Call, Email, or Complete the Form Below To Report COVID-Related Information
Please call or email EVHS school nurse Melissa Persigehl with the following information. Or, you may complete the form at the link below.
- If you or your child is ill or are experiencing symptoms,
- if you or your child is identified as a close contact to someone who is COVID-19 positive, and
- if there are any positive test results in your household.
Nurse Persigehl will assist with screening your symptoms and walk you through the reporting process if symptoms are deemed COVID-19 related.

Calculator Donations
The Learning Commons has a collection of calculators which have been left at school by former students and never reclaimed. We created a plan to lend these devices to students who may not be able to obtain their own calculator. Many of the units are showing wear and a few no longer work at all. We are hopeful to restock our supply through donations and are especially in need of TI-83 and TI-84 graphing calculators. If you have a graduating senior or a student no longer taking math classes requiring a graphing calculator, please consider donating your unused devices for use by other students. These units will be added to our collection for checkout and returned at the end of each year. Any donations can be labeled for the Learning Commons and left at the West Door Security Office or dropped off in the Learning Commons. Thank you for your consideration.

Eastview High School Varsity Baseball beat Apple Valley High School 9-8 (May 13)
The Lightning earned their 8th win of the season and the 300th of Coach Tom Strey's Career. The Lightning jumped out to an 8-1 lead with an 8 run 1st inning. The Lightning got 4 consecutive RBI singles from Dahltyn Virnig, Sam Groebner, Brady Steenson and Jack Pepin. Brady Schmitz collected 2 hits and 3 RBI. The last of the RBI's was a bases loaded walk off single in the bottom of the 7th. The Lightning will be back in action for a non-conference game on Saturday at Mahtomedi.
Eastview High School Varsity Baseball beat Lakeville South High School 3-1 (May 12)
Starting pitcher TJ Egan pitched a complete game striking out 13 Cougar hitters while giving up just 3 hits. The offense was led by Connor Wiberg and Sam Groebner. Wiberg had 2 extra base hits and Groebner drove him in both times. Aaron Lagios also chipped in with a hit, a stolen base, and a run scored. The Lightning will be back in action today at home against Apple Valley.
Eastview High School Varsity Baseball falls to Burnsville 9-4 (May 10)
The Lightning jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with hits from Aaron Lagios, Connor Wiberg, Sam Groebner and Brady Steenson. Collecting two hits were Brady Schmitz and Aaron Lagios. The Lightning got a strong relief pitching performance from Jayden Burr. Burr pitched 5 innings giving up just 2 earned runs. The Lightning will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Lakeville South.
Varsity Girls Golf - May 14
The Varsity Girls Golf Team played in two tournaments this week and won both. Mondays win was against Owatonna, Northfield, and Lakeville South. The Owatonna Country Club is a very tough course, but the girls fought hard to come away with the win. 8th Grader, Lauryn Finley was the tournament medalist, shooting an 80, and Senior Kate Young took third with an 87. Other golfers were Emma Lai, Kennedy Brom, Megan Young, and Addison Schafer. On Thursday of this week, the Lightning played in the Bunker Preview against 9 other teams across the state. Our team scored a 333 and won by 14 strokes over Chaska and St. Michael. Lauryn Finley and Kennedy Brom both fired 79’s to lead our team. Emma Lai and Kate Young also had contributing scores to the low team total. Great job to Freshman Elara Egner and Megan Young for staying strong and making some great pars! We look forward to our fourth and final conference tournament on Monday of next week. The Lightning are currently leading the SSC Conference and are undefeated in tournament play. Thanks to all the parents for their support.
The Dakota Hawks CI softball team had a tough 6-12 loss against Lakeville’s Blazing Cats on Wednesday night. The Hawks had some solid fielding and hitting, with a late 7th inning surge, but couldn’t quite make up for the 6 point deficit. Make sure wish our Hawks well; as they head into the final weeks of their season.
Boys Track SSC Results (May11)
The boys track team competed at the SSC Relay meet on Tuesday, May 11. The meet took place in two sessions and results were later compiled together. Eastview competed against Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, and Farmington. The top performance on the day was by workhorse senior Logan O’Neil who finished 3rd overall in the 300 IM hurdles, but also vaulted, ran a 200m split of a relay and anchored the 4x400m relay team. Sophomore teammate Chet Kloss had a nearly two second improvement in his 4×400 split to leadoff the relay, an impressive feat for the lead-off leg since you begin from rest, unlike the other legs of the relay. Junior Ethan Taylor had a strong performance in the mile with a 15 second PR.

JUNIOR VARSITY SPORTS
Girsl JV Golf - May 14
The EVHS Girls JV black team had another great week, and even better, we could not have asked for better weather. We faced two tough opponents this week. Tuesday we played against Rosemount at Emerald Greens, and won 197-206. They were a tough team, but strong showings from junior Ella Demaster shooting a 47 and senior Julia Pongdara shooting a 49 propelled us to victory. On Thursday, the girls battled in their closest match of the year against a very good Lakeville North Team, but in the end prevailed 184-189. The team as a whole had a great showing and all of the girls shot below 50, and recorded their lowest combined score of the year. The girls who played on Thursday were seniors Brooke Gray and Julia Pongdara, juniors Ella DeMaster, Maddie Pieck and Alexandra Eernisse, and 8th grader Addison Schafer. Well done to the girls on a successful week and thanks to all the girls who participated and parents who showed up to cheer on the girls.

EVHS Esports Team Updates
Our newly formed EVHS Lightning Esports team (75 members) is hosted by the HSEL (High School eSports League) and is coached by German teacher Steve Sebald. Students on our team compete against other Esports teams throughout the country in games such as Minecraft, Rocket League, Fortnite and Smash Bros. Students compete in matches 1-2 times per week and work together with their team to practice weekly. Depending on the game, there are 1-6 students per team. Students connect with other students at EVHS through similar interests and get a chance to participate in an activity that excites them. The Spring Season is currently taking place and winners in each game can win scholarships of up to $1000.00. Emily Roe, Sadie Laplant, and Maddie Johnson are the team captains. Each game is also led by a Division Leader. If you would like more information, or know of any students who would like to participate in Esports, please contact Steve. Here is a great article about our team.
