Thank you to our everyone who have joined us the past few weeks to celebrate our campus and community. There were very few dry eyes at our Veterans Flagpole and breakfast where we honored our Veterans and First Responders for dedicating their lives to our country in the past and present. Thank you PTO for sponsoring the delicious breakfast, and to our staff and students who helped plan and execute this event. We are honored to take time out of our day to recognize those who serve and we hope everyone felt appreciated!

This next week is going to fly by as students continue to engage in learning and also enjoy some additional fall festivities. Several grade levels have field trips coming up in the next month and we thank all our parent volunteers participating in these memories with our students.

Mrs. Reyes was accepted as a fellow to the Arizona STEM Acceleration Project!

ASU's Arizona STEM Acceleration Project (ASAP) is a new initiative transforming how Arizona’s K-12 educators deliver high-quality, hands-on STEM activities to our state’s future leaders. This project focuses on teaming up with educators, professional development organizations and funding partners to build a more collaborative, more imaginative foundation for the development and distribution of STEM resources and training opportunities for educators across the state. Mrs. Reyes was one of 400 teachers accepted to participate in this project! This will be an amazing opportunity for her and our students. The fellowship will not only give Mrs. Reyes opportunities to gain more knowledge in STEM learning and activities but she will get $2000 to use for enhancing and accelerating our students' STEM learning at Legend Springs! Way to go Mrs. Reyes! This is a win for our students, school and our amazing STEM teacher!

Our school counselor, Mrs. Wells, prepares monthly topics to teach all students in K-6 grade classrooms. These lessons align with our EQ mottos and focus on the well-being of our students. The months of November & December will be focused on gratitude. Ask your child what they're learning about gratitude and All Things EQ weekly mottos.

This past week we had the honor of welcoming our first group of students from the TSMC families who have relocated to Arizona from Taiwan. Our LS students did a fantastic job of partnering with their new peers to help them establish routines and get settled into their new school environment. Read below for more information about our TSMC families and the honor to be chosen as a school that stands out for excelling academics and opportunities for all students.

TSMC Info:

As you may be aware, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is developing a large fabrication facility in North Phoenix (off I-17 & Loop 303) within the boundaries of Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD). TSMC will hire hundreds of local staff members and is also bringing employees and their families from their main location in Taiwan. Families began arriving in Arizona this summer and many more will join us this fall.

One of the reasons TSMC chose to locate their new U.S. facility in North Phoenix is because they recognize DVUSD has outstanding schools, teachers, and programs. TSMC families have researched DVUSD and are excited about what our schools offer for their children. In fact, students are already registered at more than 15 different schools across DVUSD.

During this school year, LS expects to welcome approximately 35 students from TSMC families. Prior to arriving in Arizona, these families researched our campus and purposefully chose Legend Springs as the place they want their students to learn and grow. One TSMC chief officer shared with all principals just how impressed the company has been with the rigor, creativity, and experiences our students have in DVUSD.

Our staff have been preparing to welcome our new students and families to the LS community since last year, and continue to engage in professional development to support our students academically, socially, and culturally. The strategies learned to support English Language Learners (ELL) are great for all students! Information is being shared with our current students to help provide background about Taiwan culture and the Mandarin language. You can check out the Culture Presentation here to learn more about these students and talk about this with your child. We know it can be difficult for students to start at a new school, especially in a new country. We want to welcome these students as we would want our own students to be welcomed if they moved to a new country, with a different culture and language.

Each school welcoming these families have set up tours and school visits for families prior to their student’s first day of school. Our administration and ELL team is assisting with the transition by helping with student and family tours, and our 6th grade student leader Welcome Crew has been assigned partner students to assist with the first days transitioning to LS.

If your child is interested in being a buddy for one of our new students or you would like to find a way to assist with the family’s transitions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school’s front office.

We feel fortunate to have such a welcoming, wonderful school community for these families and look forward to growing our Legend Springs community this year and many more to follow.

This time of year we see a significant drop in attendance due to family vacations, family illness or other personal events. We understand the value of family time and also keeping illness away from our school; however, we also want to emphasize the importance of your child(ren) being at school.

If your child is out for personal time (vacation, sports, other) teachers are not required to provide learning content in advance. Students will be expected to make up missing work once they return. Students who are absent have one day per day missed to complete their work.

Please do your best to help your child(ren) get to school on time and remain in school all day. These habits as a child build into strong work habits as an adult :) We all value the saying "work hard play hard", so thank you to all our families doing your part to help our school achieve our attendance goals and keep kids learning on campus each day!

As a reminder, gates open at 8:30AM. School starts promptly at 8:45AM.

Also-- no students will be released after 3:15PM from the office. If you arrive to pick up your child early to avoid traffic lines you will have to wait until the Kinder release (3:20) or 1st-6th release (3:30) to get your child. This minimizes classroom disruptions and ensures students are completing their full day of learning.

Open Enrollment is underway for the 2023– 2024 school year. Through Open Enrollment, your child has the opportunity to attend any school of their choice, if capacity permits. Initial open enrollment applications should be submitted by December 5, 2022.

If you have a child starting school next year (any grade) and have a sibling who currently attends our school on open enrollment, you should also apply by December 5, 2022. Priority will be given to siblings of currently enrolled students if grade level capacity permits. You must apply online at It is not necessary to reapply for Open Enrollment for currently enrolled students at Legend Springs, only new students wishing to attend.

For those of you with family, friends, or neighbors looking to attend LS next year, it is essential that you submit an application ASAP prior to the the closing of our priority window. In most grades, we typically have to waitlist the majority of students applying after December.

Families will be notified if the application has been approved or denied via email in January 2023. Upon notification, a registration must be completed online within 10 days of receiving the acceptance notification. Otherwise, the student potentially forfeits the approved Open Enrollment and will be removed from the waitlist, needing to reapply if still interested.

If you have any questions, please contact the front office at 623-376-4500.

Early Release Friday

The majority of our Fridays are 2:00PM release days in DVUSD. These days are reserved for our campus Professional Learning Communities and Staff Development for our DVUSD staff. These early release Fridays will occur most Fridays, with some exceptions. View the instructional calendar for more information.
