Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3-7, 2021
This year more than ever, our SPPS educators have gone above and beyond to keep their students learning and engaged. The Office of Communications is putting together a video of students saying “Thank You” in various ways, which will be shared with our school community throughout the week.
Students and families are invited to submit a short video, photo, drawing or letter via Google Form to tell their teachers how much they appreciate them. The format and recipients are up to them. Our favorite submissions will be incorporated into the video, and some teachers may be asked to read a submission on camera. All submissions will be compiled and posted on spps.org.
Please help spread the word to students and families about this opportunity to thank their teachers. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 23. Our goal is to represent as many educators, schools, students and grade levels as possible. If you know an educator who is especially deserving of a thank you this year, please send an email to communications@spps.org so we can do our best to highlight them.
Ramsey Show: Episode 5
1. We are looking for student art pieces, digital art, pictures of your art...be creative!
2. Have you had to record yourself for a school assignment or project? Did it take a few tries? Did you make a funny mistake?
Please send us your short, silly moment for our upcoming “Blooper Reel” For any questions or submissions for either of these, please email Ms. Kelly kelly.cervi@stpaul.k12.mn.us
MCA Testing:
MCA testing in reading, math, and science (8th grade) will be starting in April to measure students’ academic achievement. Parents have the right to opt their students out of standardized testing. Signing your student up for the Virtual Learning option does not automatically opt your student out of MCA exams. Students who have selected Virtual Learning will be given the opportunity to come to Ramsey to take the tests (dates to be determined).
If you would like your student to be opted-out of the MCA exams this year, you can fill out of the opt-out form and send it to elisabeth.fontana@spps.org. Here are links to opt-out forms drafted by the Minnesota Department of Education and translated into multiple languages: English, Arabic, Chinese, Hmong, Karen, Khmer, Laotian, Oromo, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese
A parent/guardian may also write a letter or send an email to Ramsey’s testing coordinator, elisabeth.fontana@spps.org, stating why you do not want your student to take the tests (e.g., because of the pandemic or state your other reasons). Please make sure you include your student’s full name and grade in the email/letter.

Classroom Updates:
Science 8 Update:
4th quarter Reminders! (for VLS and In-Person)
ALL Students (VLS and In-person) will need their science notebook and some pens/pencils as well as their charged iPad every day.
Science 8 classes will be following the exact same format/structure as previous quarters with work coming out on Mondays and Wednesdays.
All work will be completed on the iPad as before. All work will be due on Friday as usual.
Technology Support:
Families,
Please remember to bring student iPads to school each day. They are needed for Onsite Support and April 14th for In-Person Learning. The iPad remains the basis of the district’s Personalized Learning plan.
iPads should be fully charged each day. If iPads are not at school and fully charged, students’ access to learning is limited. The case and keyboard should be attached to protect the iPad. Having a full keyboard definitely helps with middle school writing, but it is also keeping the screen from breaking.
If you need a charger, case, or keyboard, we can get you one during Onsite Support, In-Person Learning, or Virtual Learning. Please contact your Foundations teacher or me for help.
Thank you,
Cara Hagen (She/Her/Hers)
iPad Teacher
Call or Text (612) 568-2358
If you need support for your iPad during Distance Learning, iPad teacher Mrs. Hagen is available Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30-3:00pm at RMSHage in Meet. You can also email cara.hagen@spps.org or call/text 612-568-2358 for help during school hours. Glad to help!
Ramsey Resiliency:
See you April 14th!
On the Other Side of the Door
On the other side of the door I can be a different me,
As smart and as brave and as funny or strong
As a person could want to be.
There's nothing too hard for me to do,
There's no place I can't explore Because everything can happen
On the other side of the door.
On the other side of the door I don't have to go alone.
If you come, too, we can sail tall ships
And fly where the wind has flown.
And where ever we go, it is almost sure
We'll find what we're looking for Because everything can happen
On the other side of the door.
