Greyhound Newsletter 2/26/21
LOTS of Important Back to School Info! It's a long one!
Next week is Transition Week: no students in-person, Teacher Workdays Tues, Wed, Thurs.
Hybrid Schedules and Timelines (WEDNESDAY will remain full Distance Learning, likely through the end of the year)
*NOTE: When the state changed its guidance last week, it became apparent that we will likely be able to return with all students much sooner than we had anticipated. This caused us to revisit the switch to Friday Full Distance Learning Days. When we have all students in person, keeping that day on a Wednesday allows our students who will continue in Full Distance Learning a chance to meet with teachers mid-week, rather than when the module is due.
- Week of March 1: 3 Transition Days that are Teacher Workdays (Tues, Wed, Thurs). Students will receive a lighter digital learning module and have access to teachers only on Monday and Friday. No regularly scheduled synchronous class times, no in-person attendance.
- Week of March 8: Start in-person hybrid with 6th, 9th, 12th graders The ability to orient our newest students to their school is essential.
- Week of March 15: Phase in in-person hybrid for 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th graders.
- Families may choose to continue in all distance learning if they wish.
TENTATIVE: Return of All Students
With changes to requirements by the state, we believe we will be able to have all students return for 4 days per week in Quarter 4. Some important notes:
We are still in the process of adjusting our plans and practices based on this new guidance.
Full information will be coming to students and families in the next couple of weeks. Please be patient with us! We have to adjust many things based on the new guidance and will keep you informed.
STATE REQUIREMENT: CLOSED CAMPUS IS REQUIRED for return; we cannot allow ANY students to leave campus for lunch, including seniors. We know many of you will have concerns about this, but it is part of the state mandate. We are going to have to add lunch times at East in order to meet current capacity requirements. This is complicated!
Wednesdays will remain full distance learning days. Distance learning students will retain access to teachers on a schedule TBD.
ALL requirements and mandates must be followed both in hybrid and when we have all students here at once. Following our health and safety practices will allow us to continue to have in-person instruction!
Schedules (can be viewed in Infinite Campus), Lockers, Attendance Days, and Bus Info will be mailed home early next week. (A and C groups attend Mon/Tues; B and D groups attend Thurs/Fri)

Masks Required, Follow Arrows!
includes the following requirements:
Unless an exception described in the policy applies, all students, staff, and other people present indoors in school buildings and district offices or riding on school transportation vehicles are required to wear a face covering. A violation of this policy occurs when any student, staff, or other person present in a school building, in the school district office, or on a school transportation vehicle fails to wear a face covering, unless an enumerated exception applies.
A face covering must be worn to cover the nose and mouth completely, should not be overly tight or restrictive, and should feel comfortable to wear. The following are included in the definition of face covering:
- Paper or disposable mask;
- Cloth face mask;
- Scarf;
- Neck gaiter;
- Bandana;
- Religious face covering; and
- Medical-grade masks and respirators
Masks that incorporate a valve designed to facilitate easy exhaling, mesh masks, or masks with openings, holes, visible gaps in the design or material or vents are not sufficient face coverings because they allow exhaled droplets to be released into the air.
Limited exceptions when the face covering may be removed:
- When engaging in classes or activities conducted outdoors, though people participating in these activities should maintain six feet of distance to the extent possible; “Consistent with Executive Order 20-103, face coverings must be worn at all times during indoor physical activity (e.g., when exercising in a gym, fitness center, or during recess), regardless of the level of physical exertion. Previous guidance allowing face coverings to be removed during high exertion activities is no longer applicable.”]
- While receiving a service, including nursing, medical, or personal care services, that cannot be performed or is difficult to perform when the individual receiving the service is wearing a face covering
- When the wearer needs to remove their face covering to eat or drink, though care should be taken to maintain as much space as possible between people while doing so
- During indoor practices or performances involving singing, acting, public speaking, or playing musical instruments where a face covering cannot be used while playing the instrument, though people participating in these activities should maintain six feet of distance to the extent possible
- When required by school staff for the purposes of identification
Enforcement; Consequences for Non-Compliance
*Note: We will do our best to educate students and give them opportunity to correct behavior before consequences are applied.
- In order to promote the health and safety of employees, students and members of the community, and make available a safe environment that is conducive to learning, compliance with this policy is necessary.
- Students who fail or refuse to comply with this policy may be subject to discipline or removal from school property. Students unwilling to participate in in-person or hybrid learning in compliance with this policy will be offered distance learning.
- In extreme circumstances, a person may be referred to law enforcement for support in compliance with this important safety measure, and negative consequences could involve a $100 fine [Emergency Executive Order 20-81 or 20-82 is guilty of a petty misdemeanor and upon conviction must be punished by a fine not to exceed $100].

ALL ATHLETES WHO TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID:
You will be required to follow the Return to Play Protocol. Your coach, the Activities Director, and our Athletic Trainers Jennie Koelling and Terry Hanson are here to support you through that process. You can find more information by reading the MSHSL's guidance.
There can be hidden impacts on your body that may put you at risk as you return to play. Evaluating each student athlete prior to play is critical for health and safety. It starts with an appointment with your physician before spending 7 days being evaluated by the trainers. Student safety is our priority!
Stay safe, Greyhounds!
