The Curse of the Comfort Zone
That is...until I am pushed out of my comfort zone. During the "pushing" I may feel like the bottom is dropping out (like that barrel we used to ride in at World's of Fun), and I'm near to slipping to neverland. Digging my nails and heels in, yelling and screaming (figuratively and possibly literally), I desperately try to keep myself in the comfort zone.
Oh, but once I get out....WOW!!! I'm so surprised that no one told me about this place. Wait, they did--I just couldn't hear them! Now that I'm out, I can reflect on life back in the zone. I had it all wrong! I'm able to reflect and realize my short-sighted my thinking! I actually thought I was happy, but I wasn't! I TRULY am happy now! I am out of my comfort zone, and IT. IS. BEAUTIFUL.
But guess what? Soon, this new reality will become once again my comfort zone. And I will have to grow, stretch, and continue to evolve all over again.
Thank you for challenging the status quo. Thank you for continuing to push our school outside the comfort zone. Thank you for never stopping. We have not arrived. We will not arrive. We will continue to grow and change and challenge everything we do.
I have read your administrator feedback, and it has energized me for 19-20!! I know, I'm a little amped up for the first week of June! Truly, your feedback gave me some needed direction and I'm happy to be on this journey with you!
I hope you are all enjoying your summer! Melissa
Project-Based Learning Professional Development
Every year the District brings in a trainer to help our teachers understand the project-based framework according to the Buck Institute (BIE.org). Many of the LA staff have been trained.
Project-based learning is not for the faint of heart. While we have our own style of PBL, if you want to grow in your ability to work with students in a PBL setting, then this is for you!
One of my favorite parts is that our trainer is from a school that is PBL AND RESTORATIVE. She has been a great resource for us and understands us!
Who is interested in attending this training? Please let me know if you want more info!

I would be THRILLED to know our students accessed this DAILY! It would be great if we offered this in the yoga room every morning during PE!
