Mrs. Connor's Homeroom Newletter
Welcome Back!
My name is Sandy Connor and I will be your child's homeroom and Language Arts teacher for this school year. I am very excited to get the new school year started and I have been spending time in the classroom getting it ready for the first day.
I use email as a communication tool throughout the year to keep you informed of all our classroom events. If you could please respond to this newsletter with a quick “got it” so I can verify that your email is current, I would appreciate it.
I hope this information will help answer any questions you may have going into the first week of school. If I have missed addressing something that concerns you, please feel free to email me any questions you may have.
Supplies
Please have all your school supplies ready to go. It is helpful for you to bring your coloring supplies, glue and scissors for the first day. All other supplies can be brought on the second day to lighten the load.
If you need to see the supply list you can find it here.
**LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.**
ALL STUDENTS IN MY LA AND MATH CLASSES ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE THEIR OWN WHITEBOARDS ABOUT 12 X 8 IN SIZE. WE USE THEM DAILY!
WISH LIST: though I do not need this from every parent, I was hoping to have some parents supply Clorox Wipes (or any brand), ziplock baggies (sandwich or gallon size), regular band-aids and hand sanitizer. If you want to send in any of these items, I would truly appreciate it.
Calculator needed for math is the TI 34 multiview. It can be found online at Office Depot ($19.99), Walmart ($18.94), Amazon ($18.94) It is important that you get this calculator for your child to easily follow along with instructions in class. See photo below for correct calculator.
I encourage you to send a small plastic storage box or container for your child to put in their classroom cubbie. This cubbie serves as their "locker" and the bin will help keep supplies organized and secure. Some examples that students have used are pictured below.

Summer Reading Assignment
Book reports need to be brought no later than Wednesday. I know the first day is hectic so I am hoping everyone will remember by the second day. Late assignments will result in lost points.
If you need to see the summer reading assignment you can find it here.
In short, students must read The Kid in the Red Jacket by Barbara Parks and complete the chapter summary/reflection packet as well as read one of the following books: The Kid Who Ran for President by Dan Gutman, The Fighting Ground by Avi or Lawn Boy by Gary Paulson
