Serving a Meal

Types of Meal Service
There are two basic styles that use to serve meals. The first one is family style. This means that people can help themselves to their own plate of foo, basically self serve. Secondly, there is the plate service. This means that your food is already on the plate. Normally, there will be a combination of both types of meal service at one meal.
Setting the Table
First, large plates are normally for the main courses and smaller plates are served separately. Secondly, there are two kinds of glasses. ONe is Stemware and it has a stem between the base and the bowl, The other one is a tumblers and it is just a regular cup that comes in many shapes and sizes. Also, you will need flatware which is like forks and spoons and etc. The knife and small spoon will go on the right of the plate. And the two forks will go on the left. Finally, you will need napkins in case of a messy dinner.
Basic Table Manners
Some of the manners that you should follow are to put your napkin in your lap and not put your elbows on the table. Also, you should not be disruptive such as burping, screaming, and playing the drums on the table. This is a big no no.
Clearing the Table
After everyone is finished eating it is time to clear the table. You should stand to the side of each person as you pick up dishes from their spot. Then carry the dishes over to the clean up area. Do not scrape or scratch or stack dishes at the table.
Safety Rules
Some of the safety rules that you should know are to always clean up your mess, never leave your station, and pay attention. Also, if glass gets on the floor than you should pick up the big pieces wiht your hands and the small pieces with a damp paper towel.
Sanitation
Before you start to cook you should wash your hands. Also, you should make sure you don't sneeze on the food and only serve the food if it is sanitary. It is important to know about this because it will help you stay safe and it is just good to know.
