We would like to thank our families who chose to spend their evening with us on November 3rd for Family Literacy Night. Over 500 people attended our "Smore Fun with Books" camping-themed event. Students and their families were treated to a light snack of hot dogs, chips, a drink, and a smore goody bag. The Scholastic Book Fair kicked off its sale and raised over $3,500 dollars in its first night. BINGO for a book was in the cafeteria, campfire sing-a-longs in the gym, and a scavenger hunt was offered throughout the building. As families walked the halls to see student work related to our theme, they could stop and read jokes at our display of "Don't FEED the bears, READ the bears." Our PTO generously donated four book baskets to been used for a drawing. This annual event means so much to us and we hope our families had a wonderful time.

A big thank you goes out to our staff members who headed up our committee: Kathy Cole, Lynn Kneile, Nicole Walker, Mayme Legron, Lisa Kvochick, and Becky Clapp. We appreciate all of our staff members that stayed after school to set up and afterward to clean up. Butler is a very special building with exceptional staff members!

A message from Mr. Cunningham, Advisor

This year, Butler Elementary has launched its first after-school technology club that we affectionately call "The Nerd Herd." The Nerd Herd is made up of students from grades 3 through 5 who have shown an aptitude and interest in technology not just at school, but outside of school as well. The goal is to provide an avenue to help make social connections among members with similar interests while also providing a place to discuss their own STEM interests outside of the school. The group will also be practicing some more advanced coding, robotics, and 3D modeling activities throughout the year.

The Nerd Herd meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 3:00 - 4:00 pm.

Upcoming dates include November 16, December 7, and December 14 (moved up to avoid holiday break).

Our annual Veterans Day assembly was held at Butler Elementary on Wednesday, November 9th. Our featured speaker, Lieutenant Colonel John Oscar, Chief of Safety, 179th Airlift spoke to our students about the importance of service to others in our everyday lives. Our third grade treated the audience to the American Creed, America the Beautiful, and American Beauty. Our kindergarten classes provided a surprise for the veterans by singing American Soldier. We would like to thank Mr. Brassure and the Pride of the Valley for providing patriotic music as well as the armed services medley where our Veterans stood to applause when their branch song was played. Our Purple Star liaison, Mayme Legron helped coordinate the event and had her Purple Star students introduce each veteran to our audience. At the conclusion of the assembly, our guests were treated to doughnut and coffee.
