2015-16 AWANA Parent Information
We are so excited that you have chosen to have your child participate in AWANA this year at Northside! AWANA is a worldwide ministry that has been serving churches and communities for over 60 years. It’s vision long ago was based off of a question: “Lord, what can we do to reach the children of our community with Your message of grace?” AWANA is local and it is personal. We want this to be an outreach that your children will be excited to invite their friends to! Our leaders are volunteers; “...ordinary people touched by God with a special love for children.” Please pray for your leaders and get to know them. We pray that they will become a special part of your child’s life in the coming year.
Here are a few important items to start the year:
AWANA begins at 6:00 and ends at 7:50
Please enter through the main Kid’s Worship doors each evening up until 6:00. After 6:00, please use the “back door” entrance. Dismissal will begin promptly at 7:50 at the back door. You are welcome, however, to come into the Kid’s Worship Room at 7:35, using the back door entrance, if you would like to see your child receive their awards and hear reminders for the next week’s club. We ask that you stay behind the barriers during this time for safety and order. At the end of club, we will have the children find their parents and proceed to the front exit doors where your tags can be matched for a safe exit.
Please make sure that your child has their proper uniform on each week. This includes their:
1. AWANA t-shirt
2. Running shoes (required for participation in Game Time)
4. AWANA book
AWANA Point System
Children receive points for each of the items above as well as points for Sunday school and church attendance. They also earn points during Book Time when they “pass sections” (say their verses by memory.) Lastly, they earn points during Game Time. All of these points will come together for a grand total. The team with the highest total points is the winner for the night, and that team will receive a prize. This form of healthy competition spurs children on to come prepared and to fully participate in all of the activities of the evening.
If your child is new to AWANA, they will go through entry booklets: Flight 3:16 (Sparks) and Start Zone (T&T.) In addition to completing these booklets, they must come to AWANA twice in order to become a full-fledged member. They are then presented with their new AWANA handbook and can begin studying verses at home to prepare for club. (Handbooks must be paid for in advance.) The AWANA curriculum is self-paced and needs to be completed in order with the exception of the “bring a friend” and “missionary” sections. We want your child to develop an enjoyment for learning the Bible and it’s truths. Please encourage your child to study their verses and help them to understand the meaning of the verse as well. If your child is prepared to say his verse and he has said it to you, please place your initials in his handbook beside the verse. Additionally, Sparks books come with an audio CD in the back of the book. This is a great study tool for your child as they can listen to the CD while doing a puzzle or other quiet activity at home. If your child memorizes verses more easily when they are set to music, the AWANA store online has music CDs that correspond with each book. They can be purchased for @ $10. The AWANA website is www.awana.org. It is a wonderful resource if you would like to learn more about AWANA clubs.
The safety of your child is of utmost importance to us. Always print a security tag at one of the kiosks downstairs before bringing your child upstairs, and place the sticker on the front of your child’s shirt. Restrooms upstairs are strictly for children. Adults must use the downstairs bathrooms. It is encouraged that one parent remain on the Northside campus while their child is in AWANA in case a situation arises where the parent is needed. If you leave campus, please make sure that we have your cell phone numbers on file in case of an emergency.
We are so excited to begin working with your children this year, along with our amazing team of leaders, and we are here to answer any questions that you may have along the way.
Blessings to you,
Daniel and Michelle Crowson
