Dear MUSD Community,
Dear MUSD Community,
Can you believe it? May is here already! Starting next week, we’ll be down to the last five weeks of the school year. For me, this always signifies a time of year when staff and students across our great district are working to squeeze in all the teaching and learning possible. As we start glancing toward the days of summer, our work is already underway in preparation for the 2019-2020 school year.
As we begin those preparations, I am very pleased to share with you two important announcements regarding promotions for our current administrators. First, please join me in congratulating Stacy Joslin, current Principal for Morello Park Elementary, on her promotion to Director of Personnel Services. I look forward to Mrs. Joslin applying her high standards for excellence to this specific area of our district.
Second, I am very pleased to announce that Ms. Kerry Cusack, current AHS Assistant Principal, will be the new Martinez Junior High School, Principal. Ms. Cusack has established a successful track record in MUSD as a coach, teacher, and administrator at AHS over the last 13 years. As a former MJHS alumni, she is thrilled to be taking on this new role.
As I shared in a recent email to the MJHS parent community, MJHS is full of great students and committed staff, however, as you may be aware, there are concerns related to student conduct and campus climate that need to be addressed. It is my sincere desire that all students of schools in Martinez Unified, including MJHS, are able to be safe at school and to feel safe at school. Each time I am on the campus it is evident that the large majority of our students are high character kids making good choices. We will continue working to address the conduct of students who have not yet consistently demonstrated those attributes. I remain fully committed to overseeing this work as we complete this school year and standing shoulder to shoulder with the students, staff, and community as we work together to make improvements. As a point of information, this topic will be discussed at our upcoming Board of Education meeting on, Monday, May 6, 2019.
Congratulations to both AHS and MJHS for producing yet another year of exceptional spring drama performances! What an incredible show of talent by the students and amazing commitment from our dedicated staff to create top tier performances for our community. Additionally, as we approach the end of the spring sports season, I offer my thanks to all our coaches and my compliments to students who balance their academic work and personal responsibilities, while playing a sport. Remembering always, that “student” is the first part of “student-athlete”.
