Principal's Message...
I am grateful for ....
Clean school, smiling staff, happy students, caring parents, engaging lessons, future excitement, fond memories, and a good cup of coffee while watching the snow fall.
Our repetitive behaviors build upon themselves. We must build healthy, healing, uplifting pathways into our days. These conscious actions create those healthy pathways for future positive experiences.
What do you do to stay positive?
Being grateful is a simple and powerful daily routine. Let's do this together.

Counselor Corner
November is a time when we focus on a better understanding of gratitude. Gratitude is a pattern that we can strengthen in the brain and have as a part of our daily activities. It is an antidote to stress and a facilitator of joy that becomes easier to access the more we practice and strengthen it.
One way to access this stress relieving gratitude attitude is to stop and ask 3 questions: Where am I right now? What am I doing right now? Who and what made this moment possible? This helps to shift our perspective to appreciating what it took to have someone make our snow boots, all the people that brought them to Alaska so we could buy them from the store and wear them to enjoy the beauty of snow and sunshine (for example). Attitudes are linked with perspectives, and changing our perspective to a broader view often helps us appreciate what we have and what we are currently a part of.
We are interconnected to many people and part of something wonderful. One route to more gratitude is to ask yourself or family the 3 questions and to talk about the good around us.

Bullying - let us know.
Bullying
Schools are a wonderfully safe place to learn and grow. Intimidation on the way to school, after school, anything that affects a student’s ability to focus on learning is - our concern.
Let us know anytime your child has obstacles to his/ her learning. At Arctic Light, we are diligent about our motto: Do Good Work, Be a Friend, Every Day. Our clear expectation sets a daily behavior for all to achieve.
District definition of Bullying: Intimidating Behavior/Bullying is defined as intentional and generally unprovoked attempts by one or more individuals to inflict physical harm or emotional distress upon another person or group. The misbehavior may be direct or indirect.
Whenever you feel your child has obstacles (Bullying) to a safe place to learn:
First Step: Contact your child’s teacher. Explain your concern. Give the teacher time to investigate by requesting a future time for the teacher’s follow-up communication.
If more is needed: Contact our Administrative Secretary. Our Admin Secretary has everyone’s schedule and will be able to correctly direct you to an available administrator.
Many behavioral issues have multiple factors. Please let your child know this is a process to ensure all students have a safe place to learn and grow. Even our youngest students understand that a heartfelt apology is a basic step towards a healthier future. We expect something similar in addition to our district discipline regulations.
