Welcome Back, Baker Families!
I am hopeful you were able to enjoy a calm and relaxing break with your family. We are jumping into the swing of things at school.
Our hybrid model has proved to keep a consistent schedule for our Baker Wildcats. This is something I'm sure we are all thankful for. This includes in-person instruction twice a week, remote instruction twice per week, and Wildcat Wednesdays with live Zoom classes.
Kindergarten and first grade has begun NWEA assessments this week. Each student in kindergarten and first grade will take a reading assessment and a math assessment. Testing will be completed by Tuesday, January 19. Your child's teacher will provide you with more information regarding your specific testing day.
Respectfully,
Rachel Cimek

Morning Drop Off Reminders
1. Students should be on the passenger side of the vehicle.
2. Masks, coats, boots, etc - should be on the child and the child should be ready to get out when an adult approaches the vehicle.
3. Backpacks should be on the seat next to the student so they can easily grab the backpack when exiting the car.
4. All loose items in the car should be moved away from the door the child is exiting from. Items falling out of the vehicle have become a huge safety concern; trash, extra shoes, ice scrapers, gloves, etc. Students are wanting to bend down into the drop off lane near the vehicles wheels, to retrieve items that have fallen out of the vehicle.

The Whole Brain Child Summary
The Whole Brain Child is a great read to help parents, caregivers, and anyone who plays a role in helping children develop and overcome the challenges life throws their way. This book presents the science behind your child's brain development to promote understanding about what is happening when a child “flips their lid” or loses control of their emotions. Along with giving an easy to understand explanation of the chemistry of your child’s brian, this book also provides guidelines, tips, and steps to help manage your child’s big emotional reactions. The goal of this book is to help parents and caregivers educate their children to better cope with crisis, emotions, and stress in the future. During this presentation I hope to provide a more detailed summary of this book as well as connecting my understanding of mental health to the parenting strategies provided in this reading.
