Welcome Back!
We’re ready to see our students and hear all about their summer.
I wanted to go over a few things before the start of our new school year. First, masks will be optional. The CDC recommends them in the school setting for all individuals; but we will not require masks at this time. Please discuss your preference on mask wearing with your student. Next, we will continue to randomly test asymptomatic and symptomatic students enrolled in Florence School District Two. I have attached the consent form below including an explanation of why this is important.
I’m sure you have heard about the new variant of Covid called Delta. The symptoms of this variant can present a little different than the symptoms of the original Covid last year. Symptoms can be as simple as allergy like symptoms. If a student has allergy symptoms, the recommendation will be to have the student tested.
Last but not least, the quarantine guidelines at this time are as follows. If your child has been exposed to Covid and he/she is unvaccinated, they will have to quarantine for 14 days. This is per the DHEC guidelines for schools. I strongly encourage you to consider vaccinating your students age 12 and older. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your primary care provider. I am also available and willing to assist. We will be offering a Covid vaccination clinic during registrations for anyone wanting the vaccine. The Covid vaccine at the clinic will be Pfizer. Individuals 12 years old and up can receive it.
With all of this, don’t forget about regular childhood vaccinations. There have been a few changes recently, including adding vaccines for 4/5 year olds and students starting 7th grade. Please contact your healthcare provider to make sure your students are up to date. They cannot start without them. Thank you for all of your help and support. I look forward to a great year at HPEM!
