Core Sound Estuary
Paradise is awaiting
Welcome to the most wonderful estuary in the world.
The Core Sound Estuary is located at the narrow southern end of Pamlico Sound. Estuaries are very important for communities because they provide lots of food and protected environment for fish and shellfish to reproduce. The estuary is thriving with wildlife including Blue and Stone Crabs, Grass Shrimp, Red Drum Fish, Black Sea Bass, Flounder, and a few types of turtles like loggerheads and the green sea turtle. The Core Sound is also a part of the core banks, which flow into the estuary. The Pamlico and Neuse River flow inward to its direction. While we all love the Core Sound Estuary, it faces an enormous amount of problems today. Too many nutrients are being put into the water, which disturbs the natural balance of the water by adding an excessive amount of algae. Also, cancer-causing substances are entering the rivers through sewage treatment plants
