THIS MONTH'S HIGHLIGHTS

PTMS Tournament of Books

March Madness is not only in full swing in the world of college basketball, but also in the PTMS Library! Our tournament of books got off to a terrific start. Hundreds of students completed brackets at the start of the tournament. The top three highest scoring brackets at the end of the tournament will receive a special treat from the library.

The Elite 8 competition wrapped up last week with The Face on the Milk Carton, Lock & Key, Things Not Seen, Uglies, Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Jurassic Park, and The Lightning Thief all moving on in the competition. Final 4 voting opened at the beginning of this week and will remain open through April 4th. Students can vote via this link or by visiting the PTMS Virtual Library. The Final 4 winners will be announced on April 5th when voting opens for the final competition.

We are so excited to see which of these popular books will win!

Highlighted Library Lesson - 8th Grade Science Agriculture Project

The 8th grade science classes all came to the library during their unit about agriculture to research a product grown in Pennsylvania and create a brochure or a poster using their research. Some of the products studied were corn, strawberries, watermelon, soybeans, potatoes, peaches, apples, milk, beef, eggs, and poultry to name a few.

The students located information about the farm-to-market process, farming methods, food safety and the government's role, and biotechnology. They were required to use the EBSCOhost database, which the library subscribes to, in order to locate at least one piece of information. The final projects were created using Microsoft Publisher or Glogster.

It was a meaningful way for the students to learn more about the products grown in Pennsylvania.
