A Message from the Principal
Dear Durham Roadrunners,
What an amazing week its been! I write to you this afternoon with a warm heart filled with gratitude and love for the Durham community.
There are parts of this socially distanced world that are still taking some getting used to. I find myself missing personalized greetings with hugs and handshakes, and being able to smile at people when I am out and about in my community, without my face being covered. I am getting used to carrying a mask everywhere I go, ensuring I have hand sanitizer that is easily accessible, and washing my hands what seems like all the time. In all of this, I am slowing down and appreciating time as a gift, recognizing the importance of checking in on my loved ones more frequently, and trying new hobbies that I never gave a chance in the past. I hope you can slow down and do the same.
I look forward to these upcoming weeks as I begin to prepare for our first day of school. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
In Service to Children and Families,
Mrs. Cleann Brewer

Hybrid and Online Learning Facts
We had about 25% of our school district register for the 100% online program. This has allowed us to (mostly) assign Durham teachers to Durham students participating in the 100% online learning module. This allows the teacher teams to continue to co-plan, stay in building, stay consistent and keep kids with classmates in our neighborhoods. This is good news.
We also know the one constant over the past 5 months has been- things change. As we balance classrooms we want to honor hardship requests, keep class sizes small and ensure strong teacher/student connections. After 9 weeks, at the semester and if state guidelines change- we may need to adjust this plan accordingly after 9 weeks, but hope to keep it as consistent as possible on behalf of our students and families.
We should have teacher placements done by next week and we are targeting September 14th and 15th for 1 on 1 meetings with kids and families virtually with their teachers. For kindergarteners, we are hoping we can do this the week before school starts. More info to come.
Families can expect to know their child's teacher by September 9, 2020.
Kindergarten and New Student Ipads
Optional School Supplies K/1 and 2-5
Please note, school supplies are NOT required to be purchased by families. In fact, I am currently working with Pittman and Brooks, a local accounting firm, who has graciously adopted Durham for a school supply drive. Additionally, they have funded small bags in our school colors with the Durham Roadrunner mascot for all Durham students.
My goal is to give every student at Durham a welcome back to school bag with basic school supplies included. More information to come on this in the future once the bags are prepared and ready to distribute!

Survey for Roadrunner Families
We Want to Learn More! Please fill out by 8/24/2020
The staff at Durham elementary wants to make sure that we are prepared to support students and families in the best way possible. To do so, it is important that we gather some important information from our Durham families so we can ensure we are ready for learning come September 14.
We are asking each family complete this survey for each of their children by 8/24/2020. Please click this link: Here is the link to our survey: https://forms.gle/DkXJJPB835fqMDMa7
There are 2 sections to this survey.
- The first section asks you about your child
- The second section asks about your access to internet
