Washington School News!
The 4K students will begin their Winter PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screener) this week. Each 4K student will work one-on-one with the classroom teacher to complete this screener. You will receive information about your child's results as part of the 1st semester Progress Report that will come home on January 30th.
Included in this newsletter is information and reminders about inclement weather regarding school delays, early releases and closings.
As always, please contact the office if you have any questions!
Thank you!

Emergency School Closing Information/Reminders

As a reminder, you will receive an email and/or text message from the district if there is a school closing, delay or early release. If you have not received a notice, and are still wondering about a possible delay or closing, you may also check the NJSD website or any of the local news stations listed on the website.
PLEASE REMEMBER that if there is a 2-hour delay that will mean that there will be NO AM SESSION for EC and 4K. If there is ever an early release due to weather that will generally mean that there is NO PM SESSION for EC & 4K depending upon the time that the early release is called. Again, please watch your email and text messages for more information.
Please keep in mind that bus routes may run late on inclement weather days. If you have specific questions about your child's bus route, please call Kobussen at 920-722-8572. The Washington office is not able to assist with information about late buses.
Thank you!
4K Family Game Night!
Thanks!
4K Outreach Committee
We are still in need of 2 Volunteers!
During the week of January 14th, the students will be playing the board game Robot Turtles during their library time. This board game introduces the very basics of computer coding without even realizing it! To make this possible we need 2 parent volunteers for each session to lead the game with a table of students. The game is very easy to play and will be explained to the students before each class.
Washington families can use the sign-up:

Please note that you will need to complete a background check before volunteering in our school. You can stop by the office to fill one out or I can send one home with your student.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you for your help with this fun activity!

Attendance Reminders
Although Early Childhood and 4K are not mandated, the district does keep track of attendance for your child. We encourage you to promote good attendance but also understand that illness does occur. Please refer to our "Too Sick For School" guidelines that are available on our website (and are included in this newsletter).
Here is a reminder of what K-12th grade requires, and what our EC and 4K program uses as a guideline:
- The state allows up to 10 days to be excused per school year. After 10 days a doctor's note must be received in order for the absences to be excused.
- Any time your child is absent and a doctor's note has been received, the absence is exempt and does not count toward the 10 allowed absences.
- If your child is going to miss school because of a doctor appointment, it is best practice to get an excuse.
- If your child will be out for any reason, and you do not contact the office, the absences will be unexcused. Please email or call the office to avoid this.
If you have any questions about our attendance policy, please contact Ms. Brethouwer.
Absence Policy
at 751-6990 or send an email to washingtonoffice@neenah.k12.wi.us to inform us of this absence. Please give the following information:
- Date of absence
- Child's name
- Child's teacher
- Reason for absence
We will record this information in our attendance system, and let your child's teacher know.
If you do not contact the office, you should expect a call from us.
Please let us know if you have any specific questions!
Bus Information
Important bus information:
- If you have questions about pick-up or drop-off times, please contact Kobussen at 920-722-8572
- If you need to change a pick-up or drop-off location, please request a new transportation form from the Washington office
- All changes need to be turned in by Wednesday at noon in order to take place the following Monday
- Please be aware that door-to-door service is the goal for all EC and 4K students, but certain circumstances make that not possible. In those cases, the bus will get as close to your home as possible. Please contact Kobussen if you have any questions.
