Monomoy Regional High School
Message from Principal Burkhead
Welcome Back!
We are excited to start the 2017-18 school year and look forward to welcoming our students back on September 5th. We pride ourselves in the belief that OUR school is "A Home Away From Home." Our school is a safe, caring, exciting and positive place for our students, families, community members, faculty and staff.
We spent extensive time last year working collaboratively as a school community developing our school's "Core Values" (pictured above). These values reflect what WE believe in and value in a high quality educational experience and will guide our decision making moving forward. I was taught that the place we live, made up of concrete, steel, wood and glass, constitutes a house. The "Core Values" within that house (or school) such as the ability to think critically, persevere, challenge oneself, communicate/collaborate with others as a team and display a passion for learning are what truly make it a home. We look forward to living and breathing these Core Values with you this year and beyond.
I look forward to meeting you personally in the upcoming year and I am excited for our students to fill our classrooms with some of the most dedicated, hardworking and compassionate educators and support staff in the state.

All student drop off and pick up will occur at the main school entrance in front of the building. We ask that you stay in the left lane when entering from Oak Street to allow for bus access to the rear of the building. Student/Parent Handbook:
The MRHS Student-Parent Handbook is available online. To access click link- https://ma02212658.schoolwires.net/cms/lib/MA02212658/Centricity/Domain/169/HANDBOOK%20FY18%20edited%2006-26-17.pdf
Contact Information:
It is important we have the most recent contact information to best communicate with home. Please check your contact information on Aspen and contact Ms. Casey (bcasey@ monomoy.edu) in our guidance office with any changes.
Bus Information:
Mr. Carpenter recently sent information on our new bus routes. We'd like to emphasize the following from his memo:
- To help all of our buses run on time, we need parents’ support. Please have your child ready and at each bus stop at least 5 minutes before pick up time, rather than having a bus delayed while waiting for your child to put on their backpack and run out to the bus. Please also take your “first day of school” pictures before the bus arrives.
- In the afternoons, our buses do middle or high school runs after transporting our elementary students. An adult/parent needs to be present to meet younger elementary students at a bus stop. If there is no adult present for your child, the bus will need to complete its run and will drop your child off at the nearest Monomoy elementary school before making its middle or high school run. This will potentially delay the bus runs for affected middle or high school students, and may involve your family being billed for supervisory time by the after school program.

Student Schedules:
Student Schedules are now accessible on Aspen. Our guidance team are now available to work with anyone who needs to make schedule adjustments before the school year starts.
Student parking:
Students will be able to park on the side lot adjacent to Whitehouse field and enter through the side doors of the school until 9am. During the first full week of school seniors in good standing will have the privilege of parking in the rear lot if they choose.
Curriculum Night: September 27, 2017 6:30-8:30pm *HS Auditorium
One of the most effective ways to promote student growth academically, behaviorally, and socially is through a partnership that bridges the school and home together. Curriculum Night provides an opportunity for parents to meet school personnel, learn about school wide and course expectations and ask questions. See you there!
School Pictures:
School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 12. All students must have their picture taken for ID purposes. Information will be distributed to students interesting in purchasing a photo package.
Thank you!
Please contact us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to providing your child the highest caliber education and learning experience.
Parents Wanted! School Advisory Council
We look to build a strong school advisory council this year to guide our important work. A school council is a representative, school building-based committee that meets quarterly and is composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and students. School councils are to assist principals in:
1. Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
2. Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
3. Reviewing the annual school building budget
4. Formulating a school improvement plan
5. Review the student handbook
If you are interested please send an email message principal Burkhead at bburkhead@monomoy.edu indicating your interest in serving on the school council.

Home-School-Community Communication
As part of our continuing efforts to strengthen and expand communication, we have been working to enhance our digital tools, starting with the launch of our redesigned website in June (www.monomoy.edu). In conjunction with that project, we are excited to now announce the release of our very own Monomoy Regional School District app. This free smartphone app, available for both iPhone and Android devices, offers a streamlined way to stay informed about events, news, and announcements from around the district. The app will offer a consolidated location for calendars, updates, and resources, as well as personalized information and links to frequently used sites such as Aspen.
First download the app to your phone with keyword Monomoy. You will receive an automated email from the system encouraging you to log in to the app. From there, you can set your preferences, including which schools to follow, push notifications, and more. Moving forward, we will continue to expand upon the information offered via the app, as well as through our website and other communications tools. This includes an update to the ConnectEd service, now called Mass Notifications, which allows for streamlined, one-stop messaging and SMS text notifications – so be sure we have your mobile number on file.
We will continue to communicate via email, phone, and other methods – we are simply expanding the ways in which parents, staff, students, and community members can stay connected.
