'The future belongs to those who prepare for it today!'

A warm welcome back to you all and a Happy New Year!

Whilst the dark nights appear to be lingering, I am glad to observe that the stars are still shining brightly. This notion has me reflecting on the festive events from the last term, namely Crawford's Nativity - it was amazing to see so many parents, carers, siblings and members of the family showing their support for the many little stars performing.

Looking ahead, this term brings about new learning themes but a continued focus on lifelong learning. We are currently reviewing the Crawford's Cogs and I am pleased to say that, having taken onboard feedback from parents, governors, staff and of course the children, we will soon be unveiling our research and a subsequent plan for implementation. Our Cogs underpin a values-based curriculum that we feel very passionately about. So...watch this space!

I am super excited to announce that our new website has been constructed and it is now live. I hope you will agree, it showcases the school in its most true and stimulating light. The website has been designed for 'the people', therefore, we have tried to provide a site that serves as a hub of information for the school. A new parent calendar and wellbeing section are areas that I feel are welcomed additions. I would also like to signpost you towards the 'Supporting Your Child at Home' section; this area explains how you can support your child with the fundamental aspects of reading, writing and maths. Each class also has a page dedicated to their term's theme/topic focus. Here, resources will be added so that you can see what tools and strategies we are using in the classroom. The 'Kids Zone' tab is an area which provides the most popular and engaging learning sites/ apps, so please encourage your child to also access the website.

I very much looking forward to working with you all again. The future is bright or as one man famously said: 'The future belongs to those who prepare for it today!'

Attendance Policy Update

As you may be aware, we are now part of the Tilian Academy Partnership. This means that the majority of our policies have now been adopted by the Tilian ones.

One particular policy that I would like to share with you is the Attendance Policy. This can be located by clicking on the link below.

To locate all of our other policies, please visit our new school website.

I hope this information is helpful and provides clarification.

Uniform & PE kit

Please can I remind everyone that school uniform is to be worn consistently, especially school shoes, and it is important that children are encouraged to look after their belongings. The school does not adopt a lost-property system, therefore belongings are to be checked daily. Those without the correct footwear (unless notified) will be issued with plimsoles to wear.

Easy Fundraising

Please support the PTFA fundraising via your online shopping through easyfundraising.org.uk.

You access over 2,700 retailers through this website such as Amazon, Argos, ebay, Sports Direct and Asda. Tesco is also included so when you re-order school uniform please use this website so the school receives cashback. It's really easy to use and set-up.

Go to easyfundraising.org.uk first and create a user account, selecting Haughley Crawfords PTA as your good cause. You access your usual online retailer's website from the easyfundraising website and every time you shop the school will receive cashback. You don't pay any extra and the retailer's website is exactly the same as usual with the cashback benefits going to the school.

Online Safety Guidance/ Updates

Online safety - The BBC has reported on a survey on children's use of mobile technology. British children spend, on average, three hours a day online and 65% of parents let their children use gadgets alone in their bedroom. As a school, we recommend that parents supervise the use of mobile technology devices and these are not used by children in their bedrooms.

Milk 'N' Shake

I am delighted to announce that as from Tuesday 8th January, we will be holding a FREE 'Milk N Shake' breakfast club. Here, both the children and their family members can arrive at school early (every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) to take part in some physical activity. They will then be provided with some cold milk to strengthen the bones and to prepare them for the day ahead. What a great opportunity to start the year in a positive way! Everyone's invited so please come and give it a try!

Healthy Body...Healthy Mind!

The Chief Medical Office has recently announced that children should undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day in school and at least 60 minutes a day. Daily physical exercise has huge benefits including building confidence & social skills; maintaining a healthy weight; strengthening muscles & bones; improving health & fitness; making you feel good; developing coordination; improving concentration & learning and of course, improving sleep!
