Knik Elementary
September 2018
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Knik Elementary Families.
September is a great month to make a few plans for the upcoming school year. I would like to encourage you to think about getting your student involved with one of the many extra-curricular activities Knik Elementary offers for our students. Educational research very clearly shows that students who participate in before and after school activities show higher levels of academic achievement, school attendance, and aspirations for college attendance. When a school offers a robust array of activities, the benefits compound and positively impact virtually every measurable quality. Academics, attendance, student behavior, and the school climate as a whole all show improvement with higher participation in activities.
It is for these reasons that we try to offer as many before and after school choices as possible for students. Please take a look at the below table of activities and consider encouraging your child to join one or more this year. This is a tentative list and may change as the year moves on, but it should give you a general idea of what is coming up so that you can keep an eye out for the permission slips. We send fliers and permission slips home regularly in the upcoming weeks before an activity begins and students can join at any point, even if an activity has already started. On occasion there are limited spaces available, but, we do our best to assure that there are enough opportunities for every student at Knik. You can also find up to date information on our Knik Elementary Facebook page, on our school website, or you may call the front office whenever it is convenient at 352-0300.
Please feel free to call the front office for more details. We have a high number of students who participate in activities and if you are not already involved, we hope that you will consider signing up…..the benefits are huge!
Kindest Regards, John Gardner- Principal
