Families With Incoming 6th Graders
Our transition time for families with incoming 6th graders will begin in May this year. We always look forward to these times when our school is visited be our future RedHawks and their families. It is a great time for 5th graders to see the building during their classroom visits while getting a brief tour from a current RedHawk. As principal, I especially love this time when we get to meet new families and explain how middle school is so amazingly different from elementary school. If you know a family of a soon to be middle schooler, please encourage them to attend the upcoming transition opportunities. These events are designed to help ease some of those nerves that come with a school change!

Wredling Families:
Providing proactive support to our students as they navigate the many social and emotional environments is a goal of our middle school learning communities. The district has student support teams made up of mental health professionals that assist students as they develop and expand their skills; some on a weekly basis and others in response to crisis. Student support team members also work alongside grade and content teachers teams to better understand student needs across their school day. To ensure support is available throughout the school day, District 303 is partnering with Tri-City (TMS) Centennial Counseling (WMS) services.
Starting after spring break, a counselor from TriCity/Centennial will join our building student support team one day a week. The counselor, along with our school support team staff, will meet with students who may need some additional emotional support across the school day. As an added layer of support, we are also developing small groups focused on specific areas of student need.If your child participates in one or more of these groups, we will request your permission.
We are fortunate to have strong community resources, and we are excited by this opportunity to partner with our community agencies. If you have questions, please contact Patti Palagi, Director of Instructional Interventions (patti.palagi@d303.org)

Middle School Event: April 14 from 1-3 p.m.
Fifth grader Tamaya Dhilwaddi and seventh grader Marshall Walsh have been walking to and from Woodridge Academy together since elementary school. But their routine is disrupted when bully Chad Hilligas challenges Marshall to a fight. To avoid the conflict, Marshall takes a shortcut home through the off-limits woods. Tamaya, unaware of the reason for the detour, reluctantly follows. They soon get lost. And then they find trouble. Bigger trouble than anyone could ever have imagined.
In the days and weeks that follow, the authorities and the U.S. Senate become involved, and what they uncover might affect the future of the world.

In Ashfall, the supervolcano under Yellowstone erupts, blanketing much of the United States in a thick, deadly layer of ash. As society begins to break down under the strain of the disaster, one boy must make his way across Iowa to reunite with his family. This coming-of-age tale explores concepts of volcanology, physics, engineering, and food science, and also raises questions about the true cost of survival and the importance of holding on to humanity in the face of cataclysmic events.
