Utah EMS Education Update

February 2020

In This Issue

In this issue, the NREMT came out with a new fee schedule for 2021 and a modification to the IV skill station. There are some changes to the training center application process. Also, check out the great training opportunities for our educators.

Training Center Application Ready

Is your organization approved to offer CME?

Do you have a training officer?

Do you want to be able to verify CME and skills for EMS Providers?

Then you need to be an approved training center!

Who should apply? Any organization that offers continuing education and skills verification who is not already designated as an agency by the bureau?

Is there a fee? Yes, a $135 fee is required and is paid every 4 years.

Where do I apply? In ImageTrend under agency applications there is a Training Center Application. You will need to complete that application to be considered.

Why do I need to do this? In order to offer CME and skills verification in Utah, you have to be a designated agency with a training officer or an approved training center with a training officer.

If you have questions about becoming an approved training center please contact Dan Camp at dcamp@utah.gov 801-273-6673.

State of Utah Telework Initiative

The governors office has asked state agencies to identify positions that can work from home and implement a telework program. The bureau has been hard at work identifying those positions and implementing the program. Many of our staff will be working from home starting next week. We encourage you to reach out to members of our team you would like to meet with to ensure they will be in the office before stopping by. You will always be able to reach us by phone or email. We are getting pretty savvy with Google Meet so a video meeting isn't off the table!

First Responder Toolbox

This article is from the National Counterterrorism Center and provides awareness of the threat that ambush- style attacks pose to first responders, as well as recommendations and resources to enhance officer safety and preparedness.

NREMT 2021 Fee Schedule Notification

The National Registry recently finalized the 2021 initial certification fee schedule. Effective January 1, 2021, initial certification fees, per cognitive examination attempt, are:

  • EMR: $85
  • EMT: $98
  • AEMT: $136
  • Paramedic: $152

As a reminder, the new fees will be effective January 1, 2021.

NREMT Modification of the IV Skill Station

Effective on January 20, 2020, the National Registry is modifying the format of the Intravenous (IV) skill stations. The Intravenous (IV) Therapy skill station will be administered independently of the IV Bolus Medications skill station so that they are administered as two independent skills.

The ability to perform the Intravenous Bolus Medications skill is no longer dependent upon successful completion of the IV Therapy skill.
