Mrs. Walters' News

Dear Bushnell Elementary Families,

IMPORTANT- new end of day information! Starting Monday, the buses will be coming from Howard street and lining up in their usual spots at the end of the building. There will be cones along the crosswalk lining the pick up line. The few spaces that have been available near the buses will no longer be available. Please do not cross into the busing area. Continue to park in the front parking lot and retrieve your child from their classroom door.

This week we celebrated the 100th and 101st day of school! It's hard to believe we've made it this far in this unusual school year and I am feeling so blessed to have so many Bushnell Bears learning and growing, both virtually and in person.

First grade families, progress reports are coming home. This is just a snapshot of your child's continued growth this year- which has been impressive overall! If you have any questions feel free to reach out to either myself or your child's teacher.

Our gym classes are participating in the Kids Heart Challenge once again this year! Information will be coming home soon! See the message below from Mrs. Ludwig, Bushnell gym teacher!

Guinea pig donations: They don't call them pigs for nothin'! If you would like to donate Timothy Hay for Cheddars and Rosie, we would greatly appreciate it!

Bushnell is participating in a virtual book fair! Our focus for this book fair is to increase diverse books among our collection at Bushnell as well as at home. We would LOVE a donated book to our library if you are so inclined. Check out the googleclassroom below to get access to the book fair as well as hear our librarian, Mrs. Emelander read the story Hair Love!

Attention families with incoming kindergarteners!!! Kindergarten enrollment for next fall will open on Monday, February 15th! If you have a student who will turn 5 by September 1st 2021, they can start their school journey! You may also sign a waiver for your child to start school if they turn 5 by December 1st 2021. Paper work required includes proof of residency, original birth certificate, up to date immunizations and a health appraisal. Information can be found on our Lowell Area Schools website here.

Internal Schools of Choice Parents: Internal schools of choice applications for the 2021-22 school year will be available from April 12-May 14. You must submit your internal choice application to the elementary building of residence. The district will not accept internal choice applications prior to or after these dates. If you applied and were approved, it is not necessary to re-apply. Applications and open grade levels will be available on our website, www.lowellschools.com, April 12, 2021.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Erin Walters

This week's read aloud...

Zuri's hair has a mind of its own. It kinks, coils, and curls every which way. Zuri knows it's beautiful. When Daddy steps in to style it for an extra special occasion, he has a lot to learn. But he LOVES his Zuri, and he'll do anything to make her--and her hair--happy. Tender and empowering, Hair Love is an ode to loving your natural hair--and a celebration of daddies and daughters everywhere

Kids Heart Challenge!

Hello Bushnell Families!

We kicked off Kids Heart Challenge this week and I am super excited! During the month of February in gym class we will be learning how nutrition and being active can help us live longer, healthier lives. Our actual Kids Heart Challenge event will take place the last week of February which will include a variety of fun cardio stations during your student's gym class time. Any donations to the American Heart Association will be collected the last week of February.

This year, we are adding a special fun incentive because the kids LOVE Agent KHC.

Any student who raises $100 will receive the limited edition, “Agent KHC”! See secret message: https://youtu.be/q-1tF_cDLoI
