Thank you for the support you have provided to your kids and to our teachers during distance learning. It truly takes a strong home/school connection to make distance learning a successful experience for students.
Learning will look and feel different beginning May 3. Most teachers will be teaching both Roomers and Zoomers simultaneously (at the same time). Teachers will need an adjustment period to become comfortable with this change. Please show grace and have patience during this time, and know that staff are working incredibly hard to make the learning environment for both groups a successful one.
We have shared with our teachers that they should not tether themselves to their computer while teaching, and that they should be moving around the room freely. Zoomers may see their teachers through use of the teacher laptop or through a wide-angle camera. Because teachers will not be on their screens the entire time, we ask that you ensure your child has their learning materials ready each and every day. We also ask that you are readily available to assist if a tech issue comes up.
Teachers will have students log in to Zoom first thing in the morning (specific schedules will be shared by your teacher). Your teacher may decide to teach in blocks, having Zoomers zoom for instruction and either turn their cameras off or log off for a period of time to complete individual work. Because it is not encouraged that students remain tethered to their computers for 4 hours, they will take breaks and experience fluid learning blocks--moving in and out of Zooms.
NEW ZOOMER SCHEDULES BEGIN MONDAY, MAY 3rd
Students remaining in distance learning (Zoomers) will continue to receive a combination of live and asynchronous online instruction based on the minimum instructional minutes requirements per grade level: 180 minutes for TK and Kindergarten and 230 minutes for 1st-3rd grades, and 240 minutes for 4th and 5th grades. All Zoomers will attend Zooms within the 8:00-12:00pm timeframe. Specific times will be shared with you by your teacher. There will be no asynchronous work assigned for the afternoons.
HOW ACADEMICS AND INSTRUCTION WILL ALIGN WITH IN-PERSON TEACHING
Teachers are continuing to focus on social-emotional learning and community building for the remainder of the school year. Distance learners will also have similar learning experiences--sometimes with their in-person classmates, and sometimes with their zoomer classmates. Zoomers will continue to practice ELA and math skills. Academic instruction will be comparable and equitable, but will look different. For example: in person students will be able to do more hands-on activities, while it's easier for teachers to work with distance learners in small groups and have discussions. Rest assured that teachers are working hard to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for both groups!
