Summer Peeks
In order to strengthen our parent partnership, we will publish "Peek of the Week" editions during the summer.
Our goal is to publish them on Wednesday, just as they were during the regular school year. These publications will be presented electronically. Moving forward, all school newsletters will be distributed electronically.
Just Notes:
- Last call for parents who want to weigh in on sharing information about their children for class placement. As it was made explicit, we asked that parents not name teachers and not request GATE placement. Unfortunately, we received some emails that do not follow these directions. Respectfully, they will not be considered in the selection process. As we have learned over the last months, the actions of one have an exponential impact. To be fair to everyone, please follow the guidelines.
- All "lost and found" items are out of here. Ms. Truitt, our custodial manager and crew are busy conducting deep cleaning and waxing floors.

New Schoolwide Student Behavior Expectations
Beginning in 2020-2021, all Beacons will observe one system for behavior expectations. This will give us a seamless, consistent set of norms for Beacons throughout their school experience and give us a common language when establishing norms and expectations. These expectations will be appropriate in all school settings: traditional (brick and mortar); remote (distance learning) or a hybrid (blended learning) format. Please share these expectations with your children and discuss what these expectations might look like in various settings.
BE BEACON ABOUT IT!
Be brave, kind and fair.
Empower and equip yourself for learning.
Act responsibly with accountability.
Concentrate, collaborate and celebrate.
Own your mistakes and learn from them.
Nurture our planet, community and each other.
Learning Continuity Plan
We realize and appreciate concerns you may have about what the 2020-2021 school year will look like. Our district and schools are working to plan for a variety of contingencies. Look for updates and information as they become available through district or state guidance in our newsletter . To date:
- Our district leaders have met and formed a Task Force to make plans for next year.
- Following the state's AccelerateED Task Force's presentation of recommended guidelines, (held on June 11), our district proceeded with formulating our plans.
- Within the Task Force are sub-groups "tasked" to address key elements of a learning continuity plan.
- PTA President, LeighAnn Green and I serve on the Communication division of the Task Force.
- One of our initial responsibilities is to generate input from all stakeholders.
- Look for an invitation to participate in a district-level questionnaire within the next week.
We will leave our link to the BHES poll in place for the next week. We will also use this section to share and explain key phrases or terms. The Fine Arts Team of Terrific Teachers have created a reference guide to help you better understand some of the terms and words related to distance learning. This document is "zoomable" for better viewing. Thank you for your support, patience and partnership.
