Diversity in the workplace
Definition: Many companies pride themselves on having a diverse workforce, one that is made up of individuals with a wide range of characteristics and experiences. Some of the key characteristics of workforce diversity include race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, ability, and sexual orientation.
PRO'S and CON'S
Pros:
• Increased marketplace understanding
• Better understanding of the different cultures
• Learning different perspectives, experiences, and strengths of each individual
• Increased quality of team problem solving
• Enhanced creativity
• Better utilization of talent
• Having more diversity in a workforce will help us understand and be able to learn how to manage diversity
Cons:
• Language barriers – not being able to understand or communicate efficiently or effectively
• Not thinking outside of the box
• Doing things the same way all the time.
• Lack of growth
