Eagle Updates
Week 14, November 30 - December 4, 2015
Welcome Back!
I hope you've had a relaxing break and ready for another wonderful round of learning and discovery! Me? I helped on of my twin daughters with her move to the Houston area and celebrated my other daughter's engagement! I'm one proud Momma!
We have 3 weeks before our next break so let's make each day count! Please review our upcoming events within this week's updates to ensure you and your students are ready and prepared for all of our festivities.
On Thursday and Friday of this week - I have been invited by the District to attend a Game Changers event in Dallas with Southwest Airlines to learn more about creating culture. This is such an honor as six principals were invited to attend (3 elementary and 3 secondary). This is an event focused on creating culture and being innovative - I'm excited about this opportunity and sharing my new learning with you!
Our Habit for this Month is Think Win-Win. Below is information about this habit you can share with your students:
Think Win-Win isn't about being nice, nor is it a quick-fix technique. It is a character-based code for human interaction and collaboration.
Most of us learn to base our self-worth on comparisons and competition. We think about succeeding in terms of someone else failing--that is, if I win, you lose; or if you win, I lose. Life becomes a zero-sum game. There is only so much pie to go around, and if you get a big piece, there is less for me; it's not fair, and I'm going to make sure you don't get anymore. We all play the game, but how much fun is it really?
Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!
A person or organization that approaches conflicts with a win-win attitude possesses three vital character traits:
- Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments
- Maturity: expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and consideration for the ideas and feelings of others
- Abundance Mentality: believing there is plenty for everyone
Remember- when we think win-win everyone ends up on top! How will you practice the habit of win-win in your role as a leader on our campus? How will you teach students to take on this attitude?
Let's make it a great week or not. The choice is yours.
