Passarella and Grinnell selected as District Teachers of the Year

Highland Park's Kayla Passarella (1st grade) and MSMS's Anna Grinnell (art) were selected by an outside committee as the Muscle Shoals elementary and secondary "Teachers of the Year."

Mrs. Passarella has 12 years in education, all in Muscle Shoals. She says, "Looking back, there are certain teachers who had a profound impact on my life. While they were all great teachers, what I remember most is their passion and love for the students."

Mrs. Grinnell has 13 years in education with three of those years at Muscle Shoals Middle School. She says, 'What I love most about teaching is that I get the opportunity to provide a safe and happy room for students to come to. I love that I can introduce students to a variety of creative outlets while speaking positivity into them everyday."

Other school nominees included Derek Weaver (MSHS), James Miller (MSCA), Nancy Winkle (MES), Ginni Ogletree (WES), Starkey-morgan Butler (HGP), and Ashley Irons (ELC).

Muscle Shoals junior aims for 2nd perfect ACT score

By Lisa Singleton-Rickman

MUSCLE SHOALS — If 11th-grader Brady Bolding could get one message out to other students, it's that hard work pays off.

The 17-year-old made a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, but he's not letting up. In fact, he has to take the ACT once again, this spring, fulfilling a state requirement of all Alabama public schools for 11th graders.

"I'm going to do my very best on it and this time I'll do the writing portion which I need for college," he said. "I'm sure going to try to make another 36 because I know it's possible."

To put Bolding's accomplishment in perspective one must consider that less than 0.5% of test takers earn a 36 on the ACT.
