MAP and STAR
All elementary schools in the Fort Mill School District utilize an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). We administer the MAP assessment in the areas of reading and math to determine individual instructional levels and to measure academic growth throughout the school year.
MAP tests are unique in that they adaptive, meaning they adjust to a student’s performance. For example, the difficulty of each question is based on how well the student has answered the previous questions up to that point. As the student answers questions correctly, the questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become less challenging. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Also, with MAP tests we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.
Please be sure your child gets a good night’s rest and eats a healthy breakfast the morning your child’s class is scheduled to take the MAP test.

From the PTO...Boosterthon is coming!
Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the Gold Hill Elementary Fun Run! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday, September 12th. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday, September 21st. With our big goal of raising $37,000 for STEM Initiatives, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.
You can help our school by reaching out to sponsors, and then putting their donations on FunRun.com. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
