Preschool Role Model Screenings for the 2019/2020 School Year
The Carver Public Schools’ Preschool Program, located at the Carver Elementary School, is currently scheduling appointments for screenings for role model slots for the 2019-2020 school year. Screenings will be held by appointment only on Friday, May 3rd and 10th.
A screening is required for acceptance into the program. Children considered are those who do not currently receive special education services and are not in need of special education services. Applicants are expected to demonstrate age appropriate skills (within 6 months) in the areas of speech and language, cognitive/school readiness, fine and gross motor development, and social/emotional and behavioral development. In addition, a child must be at least 3 years of age by September 1, 2019 and toilet trained. They must also be a resident of Carver and families must provide transportation to and from the program. Those children found eligible will be entered into a lottery. Appropriate role model students who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list. Please note that slots are limited.
This is a fee based program for role model students. We offer several sessions and the fee for each half day session is $12.00.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the Carver Elementary School Office at (508) 866-6210.
Brenden Thomas participates in Cambridge Science Festival
Brenden Thomas was chosen as one of this year's Curiosity Challenge winners of the Cambridge Science Festival. Many students across the state entered the contest. Students were asked to write an essay or poem, draw a picture, or take a photograph about what makes them curious and describe how it prompted them to explore the world.
Joanne Kalell, who is the program coordinator of the Festival shared the following, "This year we received 4,000 entries, a little more than the 3900 in 2018. 48 schools and organizations and over 200 teachers and classrooms participated making the selection process very difficult." Brendon along with other contestant winners were honored at the Cambridge Science Festival CURIOSITY AWARDS on Saturday, April 20, 2019.
