Principal's Corner

Happy Spring! I know, it feels more like January 97th, but sometime we will have more sunshine and warm weather. April often means testing season in schools and the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) will be happening mid-April for 3rd-6th grade. Please help us to make sure you're child is ready to show what they know.

As you take a minute to check out The Wave, know there are some exciting happenings at MAES and MAIS! Our concerts, field trips and track and field events are around the corner, make sure to mark them in your calendar. Laker Legends is a new summer childcare option for our young students you'll want to know about If you're looking to share more information about what your child's learning needs are for their class placement next year, the Placement Form can be found below. We hope you have a great spring, once it arrives and find some time to hang out with us at our upcoming events!

4th Grade Students and their parents / guardians are invited to an OPEN HOUSE & INSTRUMENT DISPLAY night about the band program on

Monday, May 21 from 4:00 - 7:30 pm

High School Band Room

Everyone is born with musical ability. It can either be nurtured or squandered!

  • Researchers in child development have identified music as one of the seven intelligences, just as important as linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences.

  • Music provides an avenue for creativity and self-expression.

  • Participating in music adds richness to the quality of life.

  • Students who learn to play an instrument learn discipline and how to cooperate with others.

  • Students participating in music tend to earn higher grades in all subjects, and score higher on SAT tests than those not involved in music.

In May, during the school day, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend a mini-concert featuring Minnewaska High School Concert Band.

  • Try out their “top three” picks for instruments.

  • Meet the band director and interact with students already involved in the band program.

More information on this exciting opportunity to come!

I hope to see you and your child at the Beginning Band Open House - May 21st!
