Fourth Grade Sweethearts
Mrs. Pipes 2013 - 2014
SNOW Days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you are all enjoying the snow as well as staying safe and warm! I got out with my daughter and I got some really good snowballs thrown at her! And don't worry- she gave them right back at me!
Extra Work!
After your kids play outside in the snow you may see them getting cabin fever. Don't forget to print the extra work I sent in an email. And go to our shutterfly class website and upload some pictures of your kids playing in the snow.
Valentine's Day is February 14th
Valentine Exchange
Bring those valentine's our first day that we make it back to school. We will still exchange.
Our Read Aloud is : How to Steal a Dog!
Ask your child about this book. They should be able to tell you the social issues the book covers. We have had wonderful class discussions about the character Georgina and her family. You would be so impressed with the kind and thoughtful comments your children are making.
Math
Fractions
We are studying fractions. There is so much to learn. So far we have covered equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, comparing fractions, adding fractions, subtracting fractions, mixed fractions, and improper fractions. I would say that 80 percent of the class really needs to keep practicing simplifying fractions. So please work on that extra at home. Our next move with fractions is to learn how to multiply a fraction by a whole number.
Even though I have not assigned flashcards as homework I strongly strongly strongly encourage your child to practice them each and every night. Multiplication and division. The most successful students in the classroom as far as mastering the material are the ones that have memorized and learned multiplication and division facts.
