In the Classroom!
It's sad that Mr. Andy was unable to say goodbye to the kiddos, but I'm excited to be back in the classroom. Preparing the kiddos for future success and helping them know education is fun is what TTS is all about!
August is always bittersweet month at The Tot Spot as we say goodbye to many and begin welcoming others... It is with such pride, but great sadness, that the Sherlock's say goodbye to our friends who have grown up into such wonderful boys and girls and are moving on to Kindergarten. We will miss them and their energy. That being said, I am excited to begin welcoming our new students to the Sherlock's room,
The first few weeks we will concentrate on the routine of our classroom. We will be stressing working as a team and doing the best for our community, which is what we call our classrooms. After we get settled we'll really jump into fun. Tune into Facebook to learn about our story choices and vocab words.
Sensory, Art, Science:
We have lava lamps, lego art, lemon experiments, and levers for Lizzy Lizard week. And of course lots of fizzing and feather art for Francy Fish week. Edible stamping and disappearing egg shells for Ellie Elephant week. We will cover such things such as prediction, hypothesis, and estimate.
Math:
Besides our discussions during meal times, there is always opportunities to use math in everything we do throughout the day. During our discussions on keeping our community clean we will group toys and books, add and subtract, discuss more and less, greater than and less than. We will also have a great time measuring for lemonade, sorting laundry, sorting and classifying fish and flowers, and so much more.
Dramatic Play:
We will incorporate being healthy during this center and throughout the day. We will practice washing hands for a least 30 seconds while singing our song and using the paper towel to turn off the water and using manners such as excuse me, please, and thank you. We will also have a laundry, lemonade stand, farm in the sensory bin, go fishing, be explorers, eye doctors, and entomologist.
Social-Emotional:
We will be concentrating this month on manners, taking turns, cleaning up, and washing hands. We will also be playing lots of feelings games
Gross Motor: Pushing physically abilities is challenging and rewarding. We will use our muscles and energy to stay active. We're going to spend the month learning kickball, baseball, duck duck goose, leap frog, and of course limbo. At the same time as we're working on coordination we will work on sportsmanship, taking turns and those manners of excuse me, please, and thank you.
Fine Motor: Using hole punchers, cutting out letters, Lacing activities, launchers, cutting lace, creating feelings stress balls, find the letters, cutting felt an and foam, shaping foil,
· Remind Me App: It's a free app that we're using to for simple reminders like show and share, friend of the week, physical due dates, etc. Our class code is 26kh9g

We're adding some awesomeness to our outdoor play space. Our 2's teachers are tackling this big job. We are in need of old pot, pans, utensils, and wooden planks. They are planning to create a music wall, mud kitchen, and reading area. Please let us know if you have anything that you'd like to donate for our cause. Thank you!
