NBES Week in Review
We strive for excellence everyday
This week in the news....
Wow, this week went by with a flash. All of our kids from the youngest to the oldest are striving for excellence and really working so hard every single day. In sixth grade the students wrote some amazing stories and dove into great books while stopping and jotting. Mathematics was all about the properties and using tape diagrams to solve math problems. The fifth grade students continued working on inferring looking for proof from the story they are reading and also worked on writing "quick write stories". In fourth grade, students were rounding, estimating, and identifying expanded notation. They are also stopping and jotting in their reading books. Our grade 3 students celebrated moving up in rocket ship math. One girl had mastered all the facts and has successfully moved to multiplication. Others made mini books that focused on subtraction and explaining how to solve various problems. In second grade, stop and jot was alive and well with OMG and heart moments. I was able to spend a special moment with a student as we traveled around New York City using Google Earth. This week I found our second grade students in gym class riding the scooters, in art using their artistic talents or in music identifying musical notes. Our first graders worked on punctuation, talked about feelings in Second Step, and wrote letters and read/colored poems to our Veterans. I was able to watch a fun sight word game the students played with dice. Our kindergarteners learned letter sounds in fundations, brainstormed ideas about Veterans, and shared their feelings using the Second Step Program. The weeks are flying by and we are reading, writing, learning and sharing everyday!
