Alief ISD News and Recognitions

Taylor High School student Jawain Caston nominated for McDonald's All American Games.

Caston is one of about 800 basketball players from across the country to be nominated for the chance to play in the game. If selected, Caston will play in March at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Hastings High School student Jevon Leon was named Houston Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston Second Team.

Leon is a defensive lineman for the Fighting Bears varsity football team.

Congratulations to Alief ISD's Scholar Athletes for the month of January!

Congratulations to our January Scholar Athletes: Savannah Autin (Elsik High School Girls Soccer Program) and Jason Udolisa (Taylor High School Boys Basketball Program).

Liestman Elementary School students donate to the local community.

The school's LLOD, GENTS and Steppers recently packed 900 boxes of non-perishable food for senior citizens at the Houston Food Bank. This equates to 22,500 meals. LLOD also collected 108 pairs of shoes through donations; the shoes will be shipped to those in need in other countries. Liestman's Student Council collected more than 600 cans of food, which were donated to the Houston Recovery Center.

Sneed Elementary School received a donation of 100 laptops for the school's 3rd and 4th graders.

The new laptops, donated by Comp-U-Dopt, are equipped with applications that our students use in Alief ISD, such as Istation. Families will also receive free technical support.

Alief ISD's STEM educators presented at the Texas STEM Conference in San Antonio.

CITGO Innovation Academy at Olle Middle School teachers, Social Studies specialist and STEM coordinator facilitated 13 sessions at the Texas STEM Conference. The team covered topics that included: PBL for ESL, Driving a Novel, From Projects to Purpose, STEMifying History, Building a STEM Advisory Board and STEM in Seconds. The STEM Academies from Youngblood Intermediate School and Killough Middle School also presented at the conference.
