October 10-13
Kindergarten Parent Weekly Guide
This Week's Happenings:
Happy Fall! We hope you have a great long weekend!
We look forward to starting the second grading period with many fun fall events coming soon. Please check the calendar below for details so that you don't miss out!
Reminders from Your Teacher
Kindergartners get very sad if they do not have a snack at snack time. If you would like to donate some "emergency" nutritious pre-packaged snacks for students who forget their snacks, your generosity would be greatly appreciated! Please don't send fruit snacks. They are so popular, students who have snacks from home start to hide them so they can have fruit snacks.
Upcoming Events
October:
9: No School
12: Walk to School Day
13: Field Trip to Old MacDonald's Farm
In order to be a chaperone, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Must complete background check found on CISD website
- Must be able to ride the bus TO and FROM Old MacDonald's Farm
- Siblings may NOT ride the bus. Therefore, chaperones need to be able to make alternate arrangements for siblings that day.
- You will be assigned of a group of 4-5 students during the whole trip.
20: 50's Dress Up Day to celebrate completing 50 days of school
23: Pumpkin Book Report Projects due ( See directions in the Language Arts section below.)

Many of the events listed above are school-wide events. While we will go into more detail regarding kindergarten events here, please be sure to read the Powell Publisher each Friday for school-wide activities.
Language Arts
Just a reminder... we will be having Pumpkin Book Report Presentations during the last week of October. These are due on Monday, October 23. Please see the directions and printable PDF below. For sample pictures, see last week's newsletter.
Math
We will continue working on comparing numbers using comparative language (more, less, greater, fewer). This is a very important skill for today's mathematicians. High emphasis is placed on explaining thinking when solving math problems throughout the school grades. For example, 5 is greater than 3 because a tower of 5 cubes is greater than a tower of 3 cubes OR 5 is more hops away from 0 on a number line than 3 OR a card with 5 dots has more dots than a card with 3 dots. when I try to find partners for the counters, the set of 5 has 2 extra with no partner. We do not use symbols at this time.
Please help your child practice at home. Our new goal is at least 50.
Science and Social Studies
In Science, we will be investigating with magnets.
In Social Studies, we will study Rights and Responsibilities/ Rules and Laws.
