D Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You (The Golden Rule)
We are focusing on READ Rule D or “The Golden Rule”. I tell students that this is the longest, most important and usually the hardest rule to follow. We often paraphrase it by saying: “Treat other people the way you want to be treated.” We are reading the book Do Unto Otters by Laurie Keller to further this discussion. This is a great time for you to speak with your child about what this rule means to you and your family! Over the long holiday break, please continue to read with your child each and every day!

Guidance Corner
The first couple of months of school have been exciting and busy. With the Holidays upon us, it is easy for us to become overwhelmed and stressed. Our children can feel this same stress. Please be aware of any changes in behavior or personality. Please feel free to reach out to me via email or phone if you have any needs or concerns for your child or children.
Did you know that we have a Weekend BackPack Program? If your child is in need of
quick, healthy, easy snacks for the weekends and long breaks from school, we are able to help with that. Please contact Ms. Warren if interested- enrollment is on going although new additions may have to wait until the end of the following month if they enroll past a certain date.
I am taking referrals for Session 2 of my Counseling Groups. Topics include:
Social Skill Development
Loss and Grief
Changing Families (including children involved in divorce, non traditional families, being raised by step parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc).
Stress and anxiety
If you have a student who would benefit from one of these groups, please contact Ms. Warren. Session 2 groups will be starting after the New Year.
What are we talking about in Guidance classes this month?
This month we will continue with Courage and bravery for a few weeks. Then we move into Kindness and the idea of being “Bucket Fillers” and not “Bucket Dippers”. We will continue with Kindness and Compassion through the Holiday Season and pick up with it after the New Year.
Thanks! Ms. Warren :-)

During the month of December, kindergarten will explore mixing color by blow-painting with straws. It's a fun activity and the students will see primary colors mix together immediately, making secondary colors and even some neutrals.
First grade will explore various watercolor techniques, including salt, wax, and plastic wrap to make interesting effects. Below is a video that highlights watercolor techniques.

From the Stage
Kindergarten students are working on Reading rhythmic notation and using words and syllables as a precursor to that skill. We will begin to work on learning traditional Christmas songs as well. We will begin to work on basic soundscapes with instruments to give students an introduction to pitched, and non-pitched instruments. As always we use movement to reinforce M. fundamentals as well.
