- Message from Oaklawn: .
Hello,
Suicide prevention is an important piece of our work. To promote Suicide Prevention Month, several groups in our community have organized events. All are free:
1. Student Video Contest, age 14-25, flyer attached
2. Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition event in Elkhart on September 19th, flyer attached
3. Kevin Hines: Beyond the Bridge event in South Bend on October 8th, flyer attached
4. QPR training in Elkhart on October 21st, https://www.facebook.com/events/485362155632664/
Although only one of these focuses on youth (video contest), all of them provide an opportunity for groups in our community to reduce the stigma around suicide and increase our ability to support and intervene when needed. Please share this information as you see fit. If you’d prefer to share via Facebook, we will soon have posts about all the events at https://www.facebook.com/thesourceelkhartcounty/.
Beacon Community Impact is looking for volunteers trained in QPR, ASIST or Mental Health First Aid – or mental health professionals – to attend the Kevin Hines event on October 8th. Volunteers would need to be present throughout the event to provide crisis triage/intervention for any attendee who seeks support. If you are interested, or know someone who is, please link with me or the event organizer, Emily Fisher, efisher@beaconhealthsystem.org.
Thanks,
Amy
