Message from Geordie

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you have all had a great week. Unfortunately, I have had one of ‘those weeks’ and have been out of school a fair bit with CEWA Leadership Days and our Principal Association AGM. I did, however, make it to our Year 5 Leadership Day on Thursday which was a great opportunity to reflect on Student Leadership in our school.

Our Year 5 students participated in a range of activities that focused on:

  • The qualities and attributes of a good leader
  • What Jesus taught us about Leadership
  • Personal strengths and the strengths of others
  • The power of positivity and having a growth mindset

A huge thanks to Mrs Deshon, Mrs Cosgrove, Miss Pedler and Mr Hilton for their organisation and planning. It was a great day!

I hope you all have a great weekend and I look forward to being back at school on Monday!

Pixie Post

Pixie Post is back! Write and decorate your Christmas

Cards and notes to post in the Pixie Post Box

which will be outside the Library from Monday!

For those unsure of how this works, in a nutshell:

  • Children, who wish to give their classmates, teacher’s and friends a Christmas card, can fill their cards in at home – making sure they place the recipient’s name and class onto the front of the card. This is for all years – Pre-K to Year 6.
  • Children bring their cards to school and place them into the post box which is found outside the library.
  • Pixies will sort the mail. (Santa has allowed this from the normal present making!!)
  • At the end of the day the post will be delivered to the classrooms and teachers will be able to give out the mail.

We ask that you do not place candy canes or other lollies to the envelopes.

Student Leadership

This week our four student captains, Seth, Isabelle, Bianca and Tatiana, did a presentation to our Year 5 students about leadership. They spoke with confidence and gave good advice about what it means to be a student leader and the importance of student voice at St Bernadette’s. Our Year 5 students will continue their leadership preparations over the next couple of weeks.

$10 MKR Recipe Books & Bernie's Garden Sale

Year 6 chefs have been busy in the kitchen cooking up a storm and some tasty dishes for the MKR competition and we now have the MKR recipe book available at the Bargain price of $10. An ideal Christmas present for family and friends!

Mrs Cairns and her garden gnomes will be having a special garden sale in weeks 7 and 8. Among the usual garden produce and worm wee on sale will be some beautiful succulent plants and citronella potpourri. Some more great Christmas gift ideas! Bernie's garden sale takes place on Friday between 2.50 and 3.15pm. All proceeds go back to Bernie's garden!

Kindy Visits

Our Kindy students were treated to a visit by one of our very talented Dad's this week. Mr Quilty, a renowned Artist and Lecturer spent some time with the children, sharing his love of drawing. Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day!

The IGA excursion had to be cancelled for a second time due to the weather but the lovely gentlemen from the IGA decided that as we couldn't go to them they would come to us! They arrived laden with goodies and spoke to the children about healthy eating habits and where foods come from. Everyone enjoyed the incursion so much and we are very grateful to the Port Kennedy IGA for coming to the school!

Give Write Program - Recycling School Stationery

Towards the end of term we will be promoting the Give Write Program. This a not-for-profit enterprise aimed at taking donations of new and pre-loved school stationery to recycle, repackage and regift to Western Australian kids in need who start the school year with nothing. As well as helping needy local families, the program is also aimed at promoting recycling to reduce local landfill

During the last week of school, there will be a collection bin outside the office where donations can be made. If you do not need the stationary that your children have used this year and it is in good condition, please pop them in this collection bin.

We accept the following new and used (good quality) items:
