The Weekly Grind in Cafe 226

Keep up-to-date on all the happenings in our classroom!

Important Reminders!

1. I hope you all had a restful break filled with quality time with family and friends! Happy 2016 to all of you!

2. This Wednesday, January 6th we have Addams Family Circles! It is a non-late start day!

3. January reading logs are due Monday, January 4th.

What's new in Math?

We are finished with Unit 3, and moving on to Unit 4: Multiplication with Whole Numbers and Decimals!

Skills we will work on this week include:

-Evaluating prior knowledge

-Understanding patterns in multiplication

-Patterns with fives and zeros

-Reviewing multiplication methods

Remember to look for corrected homework in Friday Folders! I will be correcting about 3-5 questions on each homework assignment in order to provide you and your child with feedback on how they are doing with each concept.

**Please remember that topics are subject to change depending on the pace at which we master each new concept.

Wrapping up "Wonder" and partnership books in Reading

As we reflect on "Wonder", students will be wrapping up their own partnership books. To demonstrate their understanding of the work we've done with main characters, your child will begin to create a project to showcase their understanding of the main character in one of their partnership books. Be on the look-out for further directions on this in their reading folder.

**January Reading Logs are due Monday, January 4th**

Be sure to ask your child how they are doing with their weekly letters, and ask to see their Reader's Notebook if you have not seen it lately!

*Please remember that your child should be reading for at least 30 minutes, 5 times per week. Their reading log should be filled out and signed by you frequently!

What's New in Writing?

Now that students have voted on and researched their persuasive essay topics, it is time to start drafting!

-Writing claims and evaluating our audience

-Creating a graphic organizer to help organize our drafts

-How to paraphrase evidence to support our opinions
