Ribbit Report
Turner Creek Elementary School
February 28, 2020
A message from the Principal
Dear TCE Families,
After 34 years in education and ten wonderful years at Turner Creek Elementary, 30 in Wake County, I will retire at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. It is not easy to leave a place that has been such an amazing part of my career and passion for education. I believe Turner Creek Elementary is well-prepared to transition to new leadership.
When I began my time at Turner Creek Elementary in 2010, I could not have known what an incredible journey lay ahead of me. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have served in such a supportive community; a community where education is valued as a top priority by students, teachers and parents alike. I am blessed to have been a colleague to such an extraordinary faculty and staff, and I am humbled by the trust placed in me. It is difficult to express how appreciative I am for having the opportunity to lead such an amazing school.
I will continue to work diligently, as we all will, up to the very last day to provide your children with the best learning experiences. As soon as I have information as to the next steps in the process for determining a new Principal, I will let you know.
Sincerely,
Lisa Spalding
It's Flu Season!!!
- fever, low grade or high
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- coughing and headache
- body pains
Wake County Policy clearly states: any person who has had a fever of 100 degrees or more must be fever free without the aid of medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child wakes up with a low grade temperature, do not give them medication and send them to school. They are still contagious! If you send them to school, you'll get a phone call once the medicine wears off.
We realize it can be difficult for parents to take time off of work. If the students and staff don't stay home when they are sick, then it will keep spreading!
Thank you for your help with this!
TCE Community Focuses on LEAP Goals
LEAP-[Live Safely. Expect Excellence. Act Responsibly. Praise and Respect All] is our guiding foundation at Turner Creek.
Starting the week of March 2nd, we will be teaching, learning and practicing LEAP.
We will begin with the Praise and Respect All goal. The skill focus is: Address and Respond to Members of the TCE Community.
What does this look like in practice? While on our campus, greetings and responses to greetings are expected. Children and adults alike are encouraged to both initiate and respond.
What can you do to help? Remind your child that we work together here at Turner Creek as a team. Remind them that "Address and respond" begins in the morning at arrival and continues in the hallways and classrooms of our school throughout the day. Encourage your child to acknowledge adults and peers, initiate Hellos & Good Mornings, and respond aloud as others extend greetings.
Thank you for your partnership in our LEAP goals.

Please send pictures, along with the class name, to: yearbook@tce-pta.org. Please send pictures at a medium or large size so they can be reproduced well. NC Primary is March 3!
Local elections matter too! Primary elections notoriously have lower turnout, especially in March (3rd!), even with the presidential on the ballot. One race getting less attention is the State Superintendent of Education, which has 7 people running. EdNC has put out a non-partisan summary of all the candidates. You can view it here:
