Time for a new iPad
Spring 2015 Tech Dept Update
Class of 2016, 2017, 2019 & Faculty/Staff
We are excited to announce the details for our upcoming iPad update. The two part process includes Roll-In (Return school issued iPad 2/ power brick/ cable) & Roll-Out (Receive iPad Air/ purchase mandatory cover /setup device). Students will select a time after their finals are complete & we anticipate the entire process should take less than one hour for most users. This will impact all students in class of 2016, 2017 & faculty/staff. Class of 2019 will receive iPads during iPad Bootcamp.
All iPads2 MUST be returned by June 17 or a bill for replacement cost of $249 will be issued. The school is bound by the terms of the lease in this matter and there is no flexibility.
What do parents/students need to know ?
Please make sure financial obligations to Spellman are up to date - we cannot provide a new iPad to students who owe tuition, registration fee, tech fee or iPad insurance co-pay. If you have questions, contact the business office at 508-521-1528.
All students in Class of 2016, Class of 2017 and faculty/staff are required to return their school issued device. Failure to return the device will result in a bill for replacement cost of the device. Devices MUST be returned no later than June 17.
The school has a mandatory iPad cover policy. This policy was adopted because of the large number of cracked screens which were an obstacle to learning and a potential danger to the student. The size of the iPad Airs is different and will require a new cover. We are able to sell these covers to students at our educational pricing. The cost for cover is $30 (retail $49.95). Students will purchase covers when they receive their new iPad - please bring cash or check payable to Cardinal Spellman.
If a student is not able to pick up their iPad due to fees owed, you will return your iPad 2/power brick & cable and come back to Spellman for Makeup Roll-Out on July 29@ 9AM or August 5 @ 6pm.
This year, students have the option to bring their iPads home for the summer. When students leave campus, we cannot control filtering of internet content - this responsibility lies with the folks at home. Parents are responsible for how students are using any technology and should put in place technology policies that make sense for their family environment. Start of summer is a great time to review how and where your kids are using technology. Visit Common Sense media ( www.commonsensemedia.org) for resources and tools to guide teens in use of technology and encourage them to balance use of technology with other activities.
Students are responsible for downloading required course materials for the first day of school. Course materials and summer assignments will be posted on the school website in early June. Reminder: during the academic school year the school leased iPad are managed and Apps are restricted. Games are not allowed and all other Apps need to be requested through the technology office. If a student device has non-approved Apps, it will be automatically locked down until student brings device to technology department. Please refer to FAQ link for additional details.
