Student-Led Parent Conferences

Student-Led Parent Conferences will be held Tuesday, October 2nd from 11:00am -

7:00pm. Students will be helping lead these conferences, so please make sure they come along. Term 1 report cards will be given out during the conferences. There is no school for students on that day.

Book Fair

Parent's: Our 1st Book Fair of the year "Enchanted Forest" will be Monday September 24th through Tuesday October 2. Please stop in during Literacy night and Parent /Teacher Conferences and help support your school library! There is also a link below to the online site if you can't stop in. The online book fair starts the 19th. You can also pre order copies of the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Save on taxes and have them shipped to the school FREE on the release date!

Fundraiser Update

Our fall fundraiser raised $3500 for our fund raiser giving us a total profit of $1600. We fell short of our goal, but we appreciate everyone that particpated. Fundraiser key tags will be available for pick up/distribution at parent conferences on Oct. 2. We are awaiting our date for the Colts tour and will get that information out to eligible students once we hear back.

8th Grade Choir Beef & Boards Field Trip

CMS 8th graders visited Beef & Boards on Thursday of this week. They had an awesome experience and got to witness a musical.

JA Jobspark Field Trip

Our 8th graders traveled to the State Fairgrounds on Wednesday to participate in the JA Jobspark program. They got the opportunity to explore hundreds of possible careers and get hands on experiences. Please take the time to ask them what interested them the most.

Sonny Day Community Center

The Warren Township Council of PTSs runs this pantry that provides food, toiletries, cleaning products, school supplies and gently used clothing to families of Warren Township students.

Parents/guardians need to get a signed letter from the school to go to Sonny Day. Please contact Mrs. Jones, school counselor, at 317-532-6800 ext. 6817.

Fall Sports Update

Results from last week:

The 8th grade football team completed their 2 year undefeated streak with a 36-8 win over Belzer. Their combined scores for the season were 306-62. They claimed the inaugural MIIC Championship!

The 7th grade football team ended their season with a 24-8 loss to Belzer. Their final record was 3-5-1.

The cross country teams both lost by 3 points to Raymond Park this week. Their final race of the year will be on Saturday, September 29, at the Marion County Championships.

The volleyball teams ended their seasons with 2-0 loses to Stonybrook and Franklin Township West.

Boys Tennis ended their season with a loss to Raymond Park.

Thank you to everyone who made this Fall season a success! We look forward to the Winter and Fall seasons to continue on the success that we have had!

Boys Basketball tryouts will take place after school from 3-5 pm on Oct. 1, 3, 4.

Winter Cheer Tryouts will take place after school from 3-5 pm on October 3, 4.

Be sure to have a physical on file with Mr. Treesh if you are planning to try out for either sport.

How important is attendance for student success?

The single most important factor for student achievement and graduation vs dropout rate is student attendance (Reid, 2006). The state of Indiana with the new ESSA Plan has defined a student with "model attendance" as missing no more than 7 days of school. Anything over 7 days is defined by the state as "chronic abseentism." We have challenged our students to do even better than that and set a goal of missing no more than 5 days of school this year.

We do understand that there are situations that arise where an absence can't be prevented. Please help communicate those reasons to the school by calling the main line at 532-6800 between 6:00-7:00 a.m. to report the absence.

Excused Absences Include:

1. Personal illness or injury (please drop off physician's notes to front desk)

2. Death in the immediate family

3. Attendance at a family funeral

4. Religious observances required by church officials

5. Serving as a page in the legislature

6. Court appearance/court detention

7. Working at polls

21st Century Scholars

The Indiana 21st Century Scholarship Program is an early commitment college promise program funded by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE), offering income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana two-year and/or four-year higher education institution.

Students must be enrolled before June 30th of their 8th grade year.

P.E. Uniforms For Sale at the Bookstore

The bookstore will be open every morning before school and during P.E. classes next week for students who still need to purchase P.E. uniforms. The cost is $20 and includes a shirt, shorts, and CMS string bag.
