Crockett Cougar Chatter

Crawford's Corner... A Message from the Principal
The gentle strumming of a guitar greets me as I enter the doors of Crockett High School. That sound, the sounds of students chatting and laughing, and the sounds of staff members saying hello as they walk through the halls to get ready for class always puts a smile on my face. It's the students, staff, and community that make my job so worthwhile, so meaningful. These few months at Crockett have been wonderful, and I look forward to many, many more. I know many of you might be counting down the days - whether it be to summer break or to graduation - but for me, this is just the beginning. I love the work that we do here at CHS, and as I've said before, if we do it together, we will continue to be, Always Victorious!
Crockett High School to become an Early College High School
The Austin school district this fall will launch three new Early College High Schools, giving thousands of students an opportunity to earn an associate degree while earning their high school diploma.
Crockett, Eastside Memorial and Lanier will offer the program, allowing students to earn up to 60 hours of college credit. The district partners with Austin Community College. You can read more about the program at the Austin American Statesman.

Cougar Scholars: Jannatul Mawa and Oanh Nguyen
Please congratulate two Crockett Seniors, Jannatul Mawa and Oanh Nguyen, on receiving the Dell Scholarship! They are the only two students in Austin (not just the district...the whole city!!) to receive this prestigious award.
These two ladies will each be receiving a $20,000 scholarship from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, a free Dell computer and printer for college, and access to a mentor from Dell to help them through their 4 years of college. They each wrote 12 essays to apply for this scholarship in January.....and clearly the rocked it!
Special shout-out to our ETS Advisers, AVID teachers, and College Forward coaches for helping these students complete applications AND to Waters, Broddle, Meadows, and Miller for writing lengthy recommendations and editing pages and pages of essays. Thanks to your help, our future Longhorn (Oanh) and future Aggie (Jann) will be able to graduate from college DEBT FREE.

Perseverance pushes Crockett’s Eloy Davila toward Texas A&M
The Crockett High School senior, a two-year varsity letterwinner for the Cougars’ football team, also nods in affirmation to the message of one of his favorite hip-hop artists. Such positivity has helped Davila earn an academic scholarship to Texas A&M, where he will study economics in preparation to one day attend law school. Davila also received the Student Innovator Award at the annual Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSEBOC) Conference held on April 27 and 28, 2017.
