The Roadrunner Review
September 10th, 2021
It was a wonderful first 8 days!
- Can you give me an example of what it is like to be proactive?
- If you "begin with the end in mind," what does that mean?
- What is the difference between a big rock and small rock?
- Why is it important to "think win-win?"
- When you "seek to understand," what am I doing?
- Synergize is a big word, what does that mean?
- Give me an example of what would "sharpen your saw?"

Visitors/Volunteers
Anytime that visitors are in the building between 8:15 and 3:45, you must use the main entrance and check in with Mrs. Knapp in the office. While there, you will be asked for your driver's license as part of our security protocols to ensure we have safe and trusted adults in the building. You will then receive a visitor badge to enter the rest of the building.
If you are volunteering in a classroom, you need to apply to the O.N.E. program to complete a background check by clicking on the following website:

Pick-up-Drop-off
K-5 parents, when picking up or dropping off your children at the beginning and end of the day you must use the cul-de-sacs in the front of school (last names A-L) and Carl Street (M-Z). If you would like to walk up to the school to meet your child, you must park on the side streets. The south parking lot is not available to use for parents during those times.
At no time is parking permitted in the north lot - that is staff parking only. Please see arrival and dismissal procedures below.

Arrival and Dismissal
As a reminder, here are the arrival/dismissal protocols/procedures:
Arrival
1. If you are dropping off your child(ren), please do so between 8:15 and 8:30. We will not have supervision out on the playground prior to 8:15. In trying to keep everyone safe and socially distant from each other, we cannot have our students on the playground prior to school beginning.
2. We will have two areas for drop off:
- Front circle drive on Troy Street- last names beginning from A-L. Children will exit on the passenger side of the car. No parking of vehicles in this area.
- Cul-de-Sac on Carl Street - last names beginning from M-Z. Children will exit on the passenger side of vehicles. Please do not park in this area as we need to keep the traffic flowing.
- West to East Driveway from Carl to Henry Streets - last names beginning from M-Z. Children are to exit vehicles on the drivers side. Please do not park in this area as we need to keep the traffic flowing.
3. Again, please remain in your cars when dropping off your child(ren.) There will be staff members at each location, and additional staff members helping with walking students into the building. In addition, there will be staff members in the building helping students find their classrooms.
4. Bus drop off will be consistent from previous years. If your child is riding the bus, you should have received a letter in the mail with approximate times.
Dismissal
1. Children in grades K-2 will receive a tag on the first day of school that communicates to our staff if they are walking, riding a bus, or being dropped off. On that tag, bus #s will be given, in addition to which area children will be picked-up. This will help our staff in making sure our students get to the correct location.
2. Children riding buses will load buses in a similar fashion as last year.
3. Children being picked up will follow the same protocol as arrival.
4. We will have two areas for pick-up (similar to drop off)
- Front circle drive on Troy Street- last names beginning from A-L. Children will be loaded on the passenger side of the car. No parking of vehicles in this area.
- Cul-de-Sac on Carl Street - last names beginning from M-Z. Children will be loading on the passenger side of vehicles. Please do not park in this area as we need to keep the traffic flowing.
- West to East Driveway from Carl to Henry Streets - last names beginning from M-Z. Children are to enter vehicles on the drivers side. Please do not park in this area as we need to keep the traffic flowing.
5. Please remain in your cars when picking up your child(ren.) There will be staff members at each location, and additional staff members helping with walking students to cars.

WSD COVID-19 Protocols 2021-22
Please be mindful that our staff are doing everything they can to create a safe learning environment with regards to COVID. If you have questions about COVID protocols, please continue reading this newsletter and you will see additional information towards the end.
Below are the Wausau School District's COVID-19 protocols as we begin the 2021-22 school year. Please know that guidelines and protocols can change at any time and without notice. If that happens, we will be sure to notify you as soon as possible.
Masks and Face Coverings
As of June 8, 2021, the policy in the Wausau School District states that masks and face coverings are optional in all district buildings.
Social Distancing
All students will be offered an in-person spot at their home school. Social distancing will not be followed in most situations.
Cohorting
Students will not be cohorted during the 2021-2022 school year.
Sick Students, Staff, and Visitors
Students, staff, and visitors who have symptoms of infectious illness, such as influenza or COVID-19, should stay home and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care.
Attendance
All students will attend their home school in-person. Those students who wish to remain virtual will need to enroll at WAVE.
When quarantined, students are expected to continue learning by completing lessons and classroom work. Teachers will continue to make daily lessons and classroom work available through Itslearning or Seesaw and will be available for support.
Quarantining
Those who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate. Marathon County Health Department will contact all positive cases.
Marathon County Health Department will also implement all quarantines.
Contact Tracing
Marathon County Health Department will conduct all contact tracing.
School nurses will make the Marathon County Health Department aware if they are notified of a positive COVID-19 case.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Per CDC guidelines, cleaning once a day is sufficient to remove potential viruses that may be on surfaces. Disinfecting kills any remaining germs on surfaces.
Cleaning will be completed once a day by custodial staff.
If there’s a positive case of COVID, and the case is known within 24 hours, the space will be cleaned AND disinfected by custodial staff.
Filtration
MERV-13 filtration will be used throughout the district to balance energy use and air quality.
Hand Washing and Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer will be available in every classroom and at the main entrance of each building.
Hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds will be encouraged at all levels. Elementary students will have a hand washing schedule.
Classroom Materials
Classroom materials can be shared. Students will wash hands or use hand sanitizer after using shared materials.
Ipad Insurance
Please remember, if you have indicated you wish to accept the WSD iPad insurance, but have not sent the $10 (per device) payment, please send cash or check (made out to WSD) to the school office. Just a reminder, if payment is not received or insurance is declined; families assume the full cost of any and all repairs caused by misuse, abuse, or accident.
