Raureka School Term 4 Week 6
Newsletter 24 November 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,
We have had a very busy week last week and children have been doing their best to be the best that they can be. They have been readying themselves for the Athletic sports today.
I was fortunate to visit Room 15 last week and they were learning a new dance which they shared with me. They had only just started that morning and they were loving it. I have included a couple of photos of them. I was so proud of them and they were really proud of their efforts as well. I can't wait to see how well they master this dance. Keep up the great work.
Room 11 presented their class item to everyone on Friday. They had some fantastic moves and blew us all away with their enthusiasm and precision. Please see some of the photos that were taken of their item further on. Room 11 you were awesome.
Room 12/13 and the back of the hall area: The builders should be back on site shortly to complete the projects. While we haven't seen much work on the upgrade for both areas I'm told that they will be completed and ready for us by the start of the year. The back of the hall project will also be done and won't take long as they have been readying the tables off site. I'm hoping that the work will be completed soon.
Mural: We will be starting a mural which depicts our place, both old and new, in the next few weeks. This is being completed by a local artist. Please see the design below. It will be painted on the Learning Support building and part of the fruit shed.
Thanks to the parents and children who provided feedback about having more murals and colour around our school.
Next year all classes will also be making a mural to go up around the school to provide more colour and be particularly relevant to our tamariki. This will be part of the Term 1 learning.

Stationery for 2022: Next year we will be selling stationery from the school office, like we did in the past. We won't be getting parents to purchase it online again as there were problems with delivery of the goods.
We have got the best prices available and they will match the back to school prices sold by other retailers. The books we sell will be the ones that teachers have requested to meet the needs of their learning programmes. The books etc will come in a pack.
The office will be open for sales on Monday 31st January and Tuesday 1st February so you can come and buy them.
New enrolments and uniform purchases will also be taken on those days.
Teachers and support staff will be preparing exciting programmes for the start of the school year. Children start school on Wednesday 2nd February 2022.
Teacher Aide Vacancy for 2022
You will be aware that Mrs Pope is retiring at the end of this year after 37 years service for Raureka School. We will miss her.
This has meant that we are looking for a Teacher Aide to join our team in term 1, 2022. The position is for approximately 25 hours per week/per term working in classes throughout our school, supporting tamariki and teachers.
We will advertise this position very shortly. If you are interested or know of someone who may be keep a watch on the school app and facebook for more details and how to apply for the job.
Vaccination Certificates:
A reminder: that all parent helpers who go on trips/ take sports teams etc will need to show their vaccination status to us. I will also need to record this information in a vaccination register. This has been mandated and we must comply because we want to ensure that everyone is kept safe.
Thank you for helping us keep safe.
To clarify: parents or caregivers who are dropping off, picking up or settling their children, or who are attending meetings or events on site are still permitted to attend on site whether they are vaccinated or not, but please wear a mask.
End of year assembly: We will be having our end of year Assembly on Tuesday 14th December starting at 1:45, if this is allowed by the Public Health Order.
All parents who come to the assembly will need to sign in using the Covid 19 App, enter from either of the gates off Oliphant Road (Gordon Road entry is not permitted), wear a mask, maintain strict social distancing from others and be in groups of no more than 100. We will have two roped off areas available for you out on the field- parents will be seated on the grass, please bring your own cushion.
All children will be seated in a different area from parents, please do not go and see your child as this breaks the Health protocols.
As our Assembly will be outdoors, the weather needs to be fine. If it is wet the Assembly will be cancelled.
Parents will need to enter and leave from the same gate at the back field.
Our children will be seated separately- please parents you won't be able to come and mix with the children like in the past as we have to follow the Covid-19 protocols.
At the end of assembly the teachers will take the children back to class and they will be released at the usual time. Parents can pick children up from outside the school like usual at the end of the day.
We will let you know more if things change. Thanks for supporting us.
- As we are in Term 4 all children need to wear a potae (hat). Hats can be bought from the office for $10:00.
- Please remember that classes start at 8:55 a.m. each day and all children should be at school, unless they are sick, ready to start then.

- moved house?
- phone/cellphone numbers changed?
- living arrangements changed?
- emergency contacts changed?
- medical details?
Medical Reminders
We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.
· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.
· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.
· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.
· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.
Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.
Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers. The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. We need help on the following days - Front Gate: Wednesday, Friday, Back Gate: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday.
