Welcome Back!
At the Ice Cream Social, you will learn your child's teacher for the 2019/2020 school year. If they don't get their first choice, we understand you or your child may be a little disappointed. Please know, the class placement process is lengthy, and we work hard to balance classes for the benefit of all kids. Every student is looked at individually, and we do our best to make sure they have the right placement. Jackson school is filled with hardworking, intelligent, and loving teachers, all with individual strengths. We will work together to help your child have a great experience. Please refrain from requesting a move to a different teacher. It is not a simple request, as it affects every class in that grade level. Also, we respectfully ask you to avoid writing comparative posts regarding teachers on social media. As a parent, I know it can be difficult to trust the process and fight the urge to make things perfect for your child. In those moments, I'm reminded of the Native American proverb which states, "Prepare the child for the path; not the path for the child." It's going to be a fabulous year.
Warmly,
Kasia Gutierrez
Arrival, Dismissal, Parking lot, Oh My!
In addition to a new lot, we have new arrival procedures for the morning. All students and families who get to school before the 7:50 bell, will need to wait in the gym. The foyer gets too crowded and it's unsafe as students attempt to quickly push through the doors into the main classroom areas. All adults entering the building who want to stay with their child in the gym, or walk them to class, must sign in at the office.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Crosswalk help on Jamie and Harewood- As discussed at a previous coffee chat, with a reduction in hours for our classified staff, we are not able to provide an attendant at that intersection. We would love to have parents volunteer to help kids cross the street, or at least organize groups to walk together safely.
- Arrival Help- With so many adults signing in to walk kids to class, we would love help at the sign in table, and also in our new parking lot. We had some awesome parent volunteers last year in this area, and we'd love to train more.
