The Parsons Happenings

A Message from Proud Principal, Laura Clark
It was great welcoming back our students after the break. We returned to a week of crazy temperatures...starting the week with strong winds and cold temps and ending the week with spring like weather. It just so happened that we had to do our monthly fire drill and due to the administration of district assessments beginning on Wednesday, our fire drill was on the coldest day (we made sure our kiddos had on the coats and accessories). As all 800+ staff and students stood outside going through the process of ensuring all students were accounted for in the blowing wind and brisk cold, I had to stop and think of the important role our fire drills play in the safety of our Parsons' PRIDE. Hopefulyl we will NEVER have to go through a true fire event, but I know our staff and kiddos know what to do. Even in the mundane monthly fire drill there was so much pride for how we performed during the drill.
Georgia weather is so unpredictable this time of year so we need to make sure we are prepared for any weather event. WSB-TV meteorologist, Glen Burns, is watching a possible system that may come through our area at the end of next week. Be sure to tune into WSB-TV for any school closings or delays. In the event we do get some ice or snow, our kiddos are ready for Digital Learning Days. All classes have participated in DLD practice days so the students know what to do if we have a school closing.
Penguin Patch was such a success! It was great to see students with their shopping list and filling their shopping bag with items for their loved ones. This was a great way to support our PTA, but more importantly, it allowed our students the opportunity to have the experience of blessing others and experiencing giving to others.
Have a great weekend making memories with your kiddos.
Proud to be your Principal,
Mrs. Clark

One of our own Parsons PRIDE students, Aiden Opore, is a 2019 top 5 National Finalist for Sports Illustrated KIDS!
When Aiden broke the national eight-and-under 200-meter record at the 2018 USATF National Junior Olympics, his coach at the Jackrabbit Track Club, Andre Al-Ghani, saw the race unfold from the stands across the field. “Aiden was happy and excited, but he’s not one who jumps up and down,” says Al-Ghani. “He doesn’t pump his chest out; he’s a very humble kid. I know he’s saying to himself, Job well done; I still want more.”
And Aiden did do more at the 2019 AAU Junior Olympics, winning the nine-year-old 200 meters and the long jump and taking second in the 100. (He had won the 100 at the USATF meet in ’18.) His goal is to make the Olympics and break Usain Bolt’s record in the 200, and to “become the fastest running back in the world.” This fall, he scored 12 touchdowns in eight games for the Peachtree Ridge 9-U Lions. His main focus before track season begins, though, is improving his speed out of the blocks, which he practices in a hallway at home. Says Al-Ghani, who thinks Aiden could also excel in the 400, “He’s one of the special ones.”
We are so proud of you, Aiden!
