There is something about Spring that is exciting! It may be the warmer weather or longer days of sunshine, but it definitely has put BIG smiles on our students' faces. I had the opportunity to walk outside and see our students on the playground. I stood there watching them play and I had a little 'love burst' seeing them interacting with one another and being kids! Sure, we can go into all the benefits recess provides our students (like improved muscle strength, appreciation for the environment, improved peer to peer relation skills, lower body mass index, and etc.), but from my view, I saw our kids being kids. They were playing, laughing, and enjoying SPRING! I hope you can find time this weekend to go outside and find the blessing of watching your kids play. It will definitely cause a 'love burst'! Happy Spring!
District III Area Board Meeting
The District III Area Board Meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Peachtree Ridge High School. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Superintendent, Dr. Calvin J. Watts, and members of the Gwinnett County Board of Education. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Peachtree Ridge High School's theater and are preceded by a Board Governance Team Meet and Greet, beginning at 6:30 p.m. I would love to see you there!
Four of our Lion Cubs are Gwinnett Honor Chorus Members
This past weekend four students from Parsons had the opportunity to participate in the Gwinnett Honor Chorus. In November, 5th graders were able to audition for the chorus and four students were chosen to represent our school. They worked with our music teacher, Mrs. Kennedy, one morning a week before school all semester, had a group rehearsal with local elementary schools in February and this past Saturday they spent all day at the School of the Arts rehearsing and preparing their concert they presented that afternoon. Be sure to check out this two minute feature on Gwinnett Honor Chorus by clicking the link below. Parsons' four Honor Chorus members: Kidus, Liam, McKinsey and Jayden are in the chorus with yellow shirts. The students did a fantastic job and represented Parsons well! We are so proud of these Honor Chorus Lion Cubs!

STEM Math Competition
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia Gwinnett College would like to share a great opportunity for students interested in STEM. Georgia Gwinnett College is hosting the Sixth Annual Olifer Math Competition for students in grades 1-10 on Saturday, March 25, 2023. We are hoping that some students at Peachtree Ridge High School will participate.
This math competition is a celebration of future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors. Children are natural problem solvers and like to think outside of the box. The problems used in this contest are designed to inspire them and encourage them to engage with this kind of thinking. It will be a different and unique experience from what children usually experience in the classroom. Solving problems and meeting other children in a collegiate environment will make this competition an unforgettable event.
The registration is $10 per participant and seats are limited. For each grade, the first three places at the competition will receive special math prizes and all participants will receive recognition for their participation. The flyer and some sample problems from previous years are attached. Here is a link for registration and QR code:
Link Your Beanstack Account with GCPS & GCPL
We are excited to announce that tandem Beanstack accounts with GCPS and GCPL are now live. *Important: The school and public library accounts must be linked from the web. See the attached directions to link the accounts. Once the link is created, any reading logged on the mobile or web apps will count toward both profiles. Your child can now count reading minutes at GCPL and at Parsons for different challenges throughout the year!

AKS At Home
As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, the school district seeks to empower parents with tools that allow them to help their children at home. Our AKS at Home project provides math and language arts resources to support families of children in grades K-5 so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. This support is available for families to access in the format that suits them and their schedule best. They can attend live virtual meetings, view recorded information, and gain tools and suggestions on how to best help their children through tip sheets on a wide variety of topics. Click the link for more information. https://www.gcpsk12.org/domain/13286

Does your child need help with a subject at school?
In partnership with the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL), GCPS provides Tutor.com as an online tutoring resource for students. The expert tutors at Tutor.com can help your student work through a tough homework problem, improve writing skills, study for a test, review a difficult concept, and so much more! Live tutoring support is available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, students can receive “drop-off support,” 24-7, by uploading a document for tutor feedback that will be reviewed and returned at a later time. To learn more about how to access this resource and what is offered, click here.
